A couple of nits of theology.
I'll give you a couple of examples. Protestants believe that a pastor should be married, siting Paul's letter to Timothy and Catholics believe that a priest should be celibate because of the words of Jesus in Matt. in response to a question by the disciples about whether one should remain unmarried, "Let those who can accept this do so."
Catholics believe in the Immaculate Conception, that Mary, by virtue of taking on the duty of bearing Jesus, was saved from before birth and was thus born without original sin. Protestants deny this.
Catholics believe that Peter was ordained as the high priest of the new covenant, "Thou art Peter and upon this rock shall I build my church." Protestants deny this, siting other verses, equally vague and inconclusive.
Other differences are even more subtle. The more you think about it, the more you wonder why the Protestants and the Catholics don't just agree to disagree and re-form into one church again.

Catholicism, Protestantism, like is just a sect of Christianity. Catholics worship the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, just like other Christians. They do not worship the pope, Mary, or any of the other saints. They believe in the necessity of Christ’s death in order to achieve salvation. There are some differences between Catholicism and and other Protestant sects, however. Here are the main ones:
1. Saints. Catholics will pray to saints, asking them to intercede on their behalf. Protestants don't do this, and don't really have saints. I believe one reason is they sometimes think of this as worship, naturally forbidden. Also, Catholics believe Mary was born without sin (the "immaculate conception"). Protestants do not.
2. Structure. Catholicism has a hierarchical structure with the pope at the top, then cardinals, bishops, priests, deacons, other religious, and laypeople. This is not to say Catholics follow the pope mindlessly or above God, just that he acts as a father and a guide for the Church. Protestants do not have this structure, but rely on small self-governing communities.
3. The Bible. Because Protestants don't have a Church structure the way Catholics do, Protestants often end up paying a lot more attention to the Bible, memorizing passages etc. It seems to them that Catholics ignore the Scriptures and so the word of Christ. Some people even say that Catholics are forbidden from reading the Bible. That's all untrue. One big difference that is true, however, is that Protestants believe that God's will is solely expressed for us in the Bible. Catholics believe it is in the Bible and in the Church.
4. The Eucharist. Catholics say that the Eucharist is the essence of Christ, present with them. They worship Christ in and through the Eucharist. Protestants (generally) think the Eucharist is bread, symbolic of Christ, but not actually Christ.
5. Salvation. Generally, Protestants believe that salvation can only come from accepting Christ as your savior. Essentially, no matter how good a person is on their own, because they're not perfect, they wouldn't be able to make it to heaven if it weren't for Chirst's sacrifice. Catholics believe this is true, but that you also have to 'walk the walk, not just talk the talk.' Salvation is based on the acceptance of Christ as savior combined with good works.

Protestants do not accept the authority of the Roman Catholic Pope. The Catholic Church has seven sacraments, whereas many Protestant groups observe only two sacraments (Baptism and Communion). Most Protestants do not venerate the Virgin Mary or the saints. Catholics are more likely to use devotional aids such as the Rosary, holy cards, and medals. Many Protestants do not believe in infant baptism, but the Catholic Church does practice infant baptism.

hi! ok listed right here are the fundamentals. there's a distinction between Christian and Catholic! There are 5 substantial non secular TRADITIONS interior the international. those are Buddism, Judaism, Islam, Christian and Hinduism. as a result...Christianity is the custom(there are greater traditions however the above reported are the main 5), . Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity. purely like Anglican, Uniting Church, seventh Day Adventists, Jehova's Witnesses etc... that's probably the numerous smaller non secular communities that make up the excellent faith of Christianity. on a similar time as Christianity has its very own ideals that variety from the different 4 traditions (as an occasion christians have confidence that Jesus replaced into the Son of God and Muslims (Islamic adherants) have confidence he replaced into purely a prophet), Catholics adhere to them, yet in addition have many greater. as an occasion, Catholics have confidence that that's okay to settle for or supply a blood donation, while Jehovah's Witnesses are thoroughly against it. It purely relies upon on the greater specific and subtle regulations/ideals of the denomination. So yea, truly Christianity is the religion and catholicism is one in all the numerous factors that make up the religion! wish that enables..

Catholics: works, faith, magisterium (historical teachings and traditions of the Church), honoring of Jesus' mother Mary as being the mother of all Christians (not worship), prayer to Saints for favors (not worship), Trinitarian view of God and there are 1.2 billion Catholics in the world (the largest Christian denomination in the world by far)... There is much more..
You might read Father McBrien's book "Catholicism," the documents of the Vatican II council (amazing documents) and check out the endless great reading potential on http://www.vatican.va..

in the based they are same. both of them are christian, why they call themself as christian? Because they believe in the promised Christ. But they have different doctrine. In My country, Indonesia...There's a lot of Chinesse who is catholic and they still allow to go and pray to the spirit of the dead person. But in christian we are forbidden to pray to the spirit of the dead because the spirit of the dead is in God's hand and they can't grant what we want to so we have to pray to God for He'll grant it.
That's the one of many

Protestants don't WORSHIP Mary. And LUKE 1:46-55 states that God is her saviour. An imaculale conception, being PERFECT needs no saviour, etc! You should say THEIR TEACHINGS!
