I know you can make elderberry wine, but can you use elderberries like blackberries etc, eaten raw. And is it okay to just break the branch holding them off?

Cut off the end of the branch which has all the little stems with the fruit at the ends (difficult to explain!) . Use a fork to pull the berries off the stalks. Not sure about eating them raw, I'm sure I've tried them & they are nothing special. Mixed with blackberries they are nice as they add a bit of sharpness to them in pies, crumbles etc. Blackberry & elderberry jam or jelly is lovely!

I don't think it's illegal or anything like that to cut the branch off. Some flowers have preservation orders on them and you are not supposed to uproot or cut them but I don't think that applies to Elderberries but you only need the very end with the berries so just cut that off. You can eat them raw though they have quite a strong and fairly bitter taste. Much better to cook them either to make jelly or in pies (with other fruit) or even make wine!

My mother swears by making juice out of elderberries though i am not convinced. I usually have to go with her to do this - with the aid of my step-father's walking stick to pull down the branches and we cut just above the bunch of clusters. No harm to the tree.

You can use just about any berry to make wine - my lasting memory of my Grandfather was loads of demi-johns gurgling away in some of the most unlikely places, including the bedroom etc.

You can eat elderberries and other berries raw.

When we pick elderberries we cut the branch off. Then we pull the berries off the branches when we get ready to use them. We have tasted the berries (red & black/purple) they are bitter, especially the red. I make jelly with the juice as well as syrup. Syrup is soooooo good on hot cakes. I've also made elderberry pie.

Bees are in basic terms performing on intuition. The pollen they carry mutually and the honey they make is a factor of the evolutionary attitude for the two the bees and the plant life they pollinate. generating honey is likewise an evolutionary attitude. Bees produce a product that people fee, and as a result people help guard the bee colonies and, in actuality, make it greater straightforward for the bees to supply the honey by taking the hives to farmers' fields. Evolution has already figured people eating honey into the survival equation. If we've been to by surprise end doing our area, it would have a detrimental result on bee survival. do no longer permit such small-thinking cut back you.

Cut off just the part with the berries. Personally I like them raw, as well as in jelly, syrup, wine, cobbler....
