I personally use Timber Wolf which is only organic brand with no fillers and no BHA or BHTs in the food. They also sell different flavors of it. I have been satisfied with the dog food and i only buy two maybe three bags a yr to feed my sheltie. So the savings it has cost me really out weighs what the other brands would really cost me in the long run.
I never had to worry about the food recall cause none of the their products were ever purchased from china. I do use the Black Forest, which is under the Timber Wolf brand which is vension and lamb.
I have never used any grocery brand dog food on my dogs. This is where people get all the allergy problems, skin condition problems and a lot more waste product coming out of their animals. If you can't properly feed your animals, then expect to spend money on their care at the vets. There is always some expense to animals if you are not going to properly care for them.
If you eat nothing but junk food, what would your health be like? The same applies to animals. Buy quality food and it will keep them healthy. There is a reason the grocery stores do not carry quality food.
Look for a food that the main ingredient is the real meat, not a meat by product.
Here is a wonderful article that will help you understand the difference.

Beneful is junk... its full of fillers, dyes and other nasty things that should never be fed to ANY animal (maybe vultures). I'm too tired to really rant on the subject now but seriously stop feeding it. If you cant afford better try Nutro, it's not the BEST but it's better than most commercial dog foods and you can get it at petsmart or petco. If you can afford good food then try Innova, Canidae, Natures Variety or Solid Gold brands. Just stop feeding that junk beneful!
Never feed anything from Eukanuba, Iams, Pedigree, Purina or Science Diet... If you can buy it at walmart... well dont feed that its the worst bags of the worst foods

There are a small percentage of dogs that are allergic to vegetables, and grains. My greyhound could not eat soy products or she would get sicker than a dog, if that's possible. Beneful is full of these veggies and grains. so I haven't had a problem with Beneful, But I'm not surprised that some have. My current problem child is allergic to wheat, so it's hard to find foods without wheat but i did, and she's doing better.

Beneful is like doggie junk food. Read this informative review:

Do your dog a big favor and try some of the foods on these lists. You won't find them in the grocery store or Petsmart. Don't let the prices fool you. You'll likely feed 1/2 to 2/3 of these foods as compared to a grocery store brand.

beneful is crappy food.. you can find much better quality food that is affordable. Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's soul is one of the cheaper quality foods.
Also when you buy a better brand, there is more nutrtion in it, so your dog eats less. Some people have added it up and figured that the premium dog foods actually cost them LESS than the cheap crappy brands.

I avoid any foods from the Grocery Store. Purina ONE is about the only one I'd feed in an emergency.
Most have corn or wheat as a main ingredient....bad for dogs and not digestible.

I've only heard good things about Beneful. A friend of mine has a dog that had a poor looking coat and not much energy. She started giving him Beneful and she said that his coat is very healthy and shiny now and he is full of pep and just looks great now.

No, my dog loves it. Did you recentley switch to it? It may be the transition from one dog food to another abrubtly. If you change foods mix the old food and new food over a few days then only feed him the new food and soon he will adjust properly.
Person who answered first- your a low quality person. Not everyone is gonna pay $40 a week for their dogs food. Although we would all like to we cant.
