Just because you are starting college doesn't mean that you have to take a full load ( 12 +) hours. If I were you , I would concentrate on only taking 2 classes at a time. That way you are not so over whelmed. PLUS, MORE IMPORTANTLY, YOU WILL NOT GET ON ACADEMIC PROBATION!!!!!!!!!!
I am in college and have been going steadily for the past 7 years. I started out slow so as to not be overwhelmed and have done fine. I am no brain either, but the work I turn in is of good quality. I just last semester took 13 hour and it was on the difficult side mainly because of 2 classes in my major.
Stnag girl is correct - you need to change your attitude. Attitude has a LOT TO DO WHETHER YOU WILL DO GOOD AT SOMETHING.
Perhaps you need to take a break from school for a semester or two and find out if it is really something that you want to do.
Please don't get me wrong - starting and finishing college is important, but it does no good unless YOU WANT IT FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!! I hope that this makes sense. Talk to a guidance counselor about what to take and there are ways to apply for grants ( I believe that you don' t have to pay back the money) as well as scholarships to help pay for college. Talk to your high school guidance counselor about you concerns.
What ever you decide, you need to be happy with the decision. Good luck and hang in there!!!!!

You got some good advice already. I would add - consider what you're interested in and what you do well. You need to experience success. If you're good at expressing yourself verbally, take a public speaking class to refine your skills. If you want to travel, take some language courses.
Use college electives as a way to explore your interests.
Ask three people who know you well, what your strengths are.
Make a list of them. On the flip side, identify weaknesses you need to improve and skills you need to develop. If you have poor math skills, get a tutor or take a basic class at adult ed or community college. Competence will boost your confidence, so will practicing positive thinking, as people have already mentioned. Read biographies of successful people who overcame odds. Paul Orfaela, the guy who started Kinkos is dyslexic and struggled in school a LOT, yet he's a genius at business. Read his story.

Don;'t do it all alone. Enlist the help of guidance counselors, teachers, resource people. Don't be afraid of not knowing answers.

Oh, and don't forget -college is really fun!! Yes it's hard work but you meet people and there are lots of cool things to do. Join the ski club, do volunteer work, try something you never thought you would, enjoy and best wishes.

I'm turning 19 this November, and am in my last year of high school according to the British system. I repeated a grade when I was younger, my friends left me behind but hey, that's life. My only focus now is to get my grades and go to university afterward. You can get what you want once you put your mind to it. College would be a great place to start from scratch. Concentrate on your work, and you'll succeed!
