The australian government has banned pornorgraphy in Aboriginal Settlements to "prevent child abuse" and ppl posseing 5 or more videos/magazines can be jailed for up to 2 years as they automatically are considered trafficking.

Of course this law will only apply to "Black" Aboriginal Australians. As white australia and the John howard government feel this move will "protect the children". laughable dont u think ? heres the link.

This is a really awful issue. I think that it has been found that child abuse occurs in these (not all!) remote Aboriginal communities as more of 'initiation' rather than just pedophilia on its own.

I can kind of see where the government is coming from but I don't think that just because a dirty magazine isn't accessible, abusers will forget to abuse.

Five magazines or videos and you are trafficking? What a joke. Sex shops are legal everywhere in Australia and the Northern Territory and the ACT are the main suppliers of pornographic DVDs to the entire country - perfectly legally.

It is illegal to sell or give pornography to children or to expose them to it knowingly but that applies to everyone. If you are over 18, you can have as much as you like. I really cannot see such a discriminatory law surviving a legal challenge.

If true, this is a disgrace and an incredible display of ignorance on the part of the Government. Those of us who have worked with abused children of any race will tell you that child sexual abuse has NOTHING, repeat, NOTHING to do with sex, nor is it fuelled by mainstream sexually suggestive material..

Again, the do-gooding moralists with no concept of reality slaps another useless bandaid solution for a gaping, festering wound - achieving nothing but to create outrage and put MORE children in danger.

"We've banned those nasty dirty mags....everything will be OK...we can go back to ignoring it all now"

John Howard is making some terribly unpopular decisions lately, this would seem to be one of his latest balls ups. If he's not careful it could cost him the next election.

This great country is being completely destroyed by that moron Howard. He probably thinks there was a fair bit of logic in stealing children too when that was going on...
