Pull the ticks off. The concern is that some ticks can cause paralysis which can be fatal if left untreated, while others may cause lyme disease. If the tick burden is big enough the dog may become aneamic.
The main thing is to get the ticks off the dog by just grabbing them and pulling them off, don't put queer remedies on your dog! And don't worry about leaving the head of the tick in because you won't, ticks cause a granulomatous reaction when in the skin so it may look like the head is still in but really it isn't. Just pull them off!
Now for the most important part...
Because you don't know what type of tick your dog has, you need to keep a very close eye on your dog. If it is a paralysis tick and the dog starts to get wobbly in the rear end, it has a change of voice, laboured breathing or is just lethargic and not itself, you need to get the dog to the vet ASAP otherwise it may die. As for the other tick diseases make sure you keep an eye out for anything unusual like weakness, fever etc... if any of these things happen within the next week or so get your dog to a vet.

if you do have a local feed store, see if they carry advantage or advantix. it shoud be around 35 dollars for a four month supply but it is well worth it. i do not recommend frontline because you would have to treat everywhere the dog goes or he will pick up more. frontline has never worked at repelling insects on any of my animals. the best is revolution because it prevents heartworms. however, you have to get that through a licensed vet. if you do not have a feed store, then go to any store that carries dog supplies and get a dip permathrin or pyrathrin and make sure you dont use it around or on your cats if you have any. the dip will need to be diluted according to package directions. then you will most likely have to pull some of the ticks out after bathing and dipping the dog. place the ticks that have been removed in a bowl of the dip solution or alcohol. the dip will keep them off for 7-21 days depending on the product you purchase. advantix or advantage works for at least 4 weeks.

No vet at all in your area.. SO your dogs are not vaccinated. Not spayed/neutered.. No preventative healthcare.. No health care at all... Hmmm... Well Looks like you use your tweezers grab the whole tick and you pull it straight out..
You do not listen to the people who give you stupid advice about matches, and vaseline and motor oil and everything else that they will try and tell you would work well.. You remove the tick, your disinfect the spot.. And I guess you get a few more months out of your dogs.. If I lived in BF Idaho with no vet in the area.. I would move.. Who would have dogs if there was no vet care anywhere???

well in a remote area, flea and tick shampoo to cleanse the dog. There won't be residual left, but the dog will be clean. Getting a tick collar or the topical such as frontline or advantix is good, it will repel the future ticks, and kill the current ones.
In the meantime, remove the entire tick, I use tweezers and put them in rubbing alcohol. You should also look into borellia (sp?) vaccines. Lyme disease comes from ticks but is preventable.
Get stocked up, and its not a problem.
Good Luck!

grasp the body of the tick with a tweezers and gently pull it out. Do not crush the tick with the tweezers, this could force any bacteria the tick may be carrying back into the animal.
rub some alcohol to ward infection. pay special attention to the inside and outside of ears, stomach, armpits and legs...anyway i just usually bathe my dog with anti-tick shampoo and fortnightly wipe a very dilute solution of anti-tick repellent on her coat.tick shampoo can be bought at most shops...i heard tick collars work too..good luck:)

i think of it relies upon at this manner of tick. i've got considered shows from usa the place an animal could properly be lined by ability of ticks and not die. They do of direction be afflicted by the blood loss and definately choose therapy from a vet. even with the shown fact that, while the two considered one of my canines have been given ticks (i'm from Australia) it replaced into very extreme and the vet stated they have been basically an afternoon far off from loss of life. They have been strolling like they have been very very under the effect of alcohol and could have died if we did not take care of on the vets. (i think of they have been noted as paralyis ticks??). the two way, do not attempt and eliminate the tick and seek for scientific interest on your canines.
