First, are you absolutely sure it was your credit card company that called you and not some scammer looking to get your information? Did they ask for your credit card number? Social Security number? There are so many phishing scams and some are so convincing.

Some credit card companies do have systems that alert for out of the ordinary spending. So it is possible that your credit card company did call you due to an alert.

Call and verify with your credit card company that they did call you. You may need to close that account.

Put a fraud alert on your credit report at all three credit bureaus.
