When I visity my family, I change the litter box and the cat is trying to get in the box before I am even done changing it. It has no problem trying to do her buisness in front of me while I am trying to change the diryt litter.

They don't really like to do their business in private, it's just a scam so companies can sell the litter boxes that are all fancy, and have tops and what not. The reason they go right in though is because cats love catnip. Haven't you eever heard? They practically get high off of catnip. That's why they make all the stuffed catnip toys that cats love so much, don't ya know.

Some cats would happily do their business in the middle of a crowded shopping mall while others like a nice, private area away from a lot of foot traffic and noise.

I think it has something to do with early experiences using a litterbox. For example, some kittens are sick and have diarrhea or constipation just at the age they are learning to use their litterboxes. Perhaps it make the litterbox a bigger issue for them and they grow up needing more privacy and "alone time" in there. Just a conjecture.

The "instructions" you speak of sound like those given out at shelters to make sure your new cat/kitten makes an easy transition to a new home and litterbox.

Alot of cats do like privacy when using the litter box. Mine do! But all cats are different as we cat lover's do know. But being first in the clean litter is a way of marking territory.

Cats prefer privacy when they prefer it. Domestic cats descend from small wild cats. While the cat is a predator, bigger predators are a threat, ergo the need for privacy. You are not seen as a threat, so the urge to be the first to use the clean box outweighs the need for privacy. Also, while you and I read about the what, why, where, and how of cats - cats will not read the books on what they are suppose to do, so they will do what they want to...(smile)

My cats both do the same thing. I think they have a love affair with the litter box. Privacy is no issue with either one of them.

The cat likes to mark his territory, especially clean litter.

Yeah why is that my guy too. I always thought cuz I wasn't cleaning it enough, but once a day should be enough, right. Then I thought maybe he's just helping me out,you know tag teaming a dirty job. No that wasn't it either. Maybe he was jealous that what he put in I could take out! Now that makes sense.

All cats are different. Most of them are moody, secluded creatures though. Maybe this one just likes fresh litter! Hehehe, who knows!

Where did you get a cat that comes with an instruction manual?

Cats come with instructions??

Well, anyways... cats like to be the first in the clean box. (even if it's the only cat in the house) Or, you kinda "messed with his territory" and he wants to fix it up again, lol

Otherwise, yeah- they pretty much like their privacy.
