My best friend's parents won't listen when she tells them that she thinks she is depressed.

They say she is just being overdramatic, but she really thinks she is going through some kind of depression. When she described how she felt, I agreed with her.

Her parents still won't listen and she can't seek medical advice because of that.

It's really affecting her and our friendship.

Can anyone help?

Try convincing her parents that something is going on. The internet has a lot of info on the affect and possible deadly outcomes of depression. If they still dont do anything then you have to show her your support and remind her that you're her best friend and is there for her.
hope she feels better

You are a very special friend and may I mention this, many parents don't want to even consider their child is depressed because it makes them look like they raised a "wacky" child I know I have dealt with clinical depression for 25 years. I'm trying to think definitely the school counselor and also a youth leader at a church no matter whether you attend or not, they are like youth specialists. And whatever you do hang in there with her, and email me if you want. Don't take your eyes off of her. OK ?

Have her talk to the school counselor. They are trained in how to deal with a students problem. The counselor will be able to get the point across to her parents. Please talk her into doing this. You don't want her to end up try to take her life while in a state of depression.

Why can't she call the family doc and talk to him/her on the phone and explain the situation. The doc could talk to the parents. Your friend could also talk to school counselor or a trusted teacher and have them speak to her parents.

Yes...tell her to make an appointment with her school's nurse...and confide in her how she's feeling. The nurse should mediate this very important concern with her parents.

good luck dear heart.

you need to talk to her as much as you can. keep her busy when you hangin out with her, have many things to do to keep her mind off of the problem that is affecting her. it would help to know more about what is going on to recieve a more affective anwser.
