If I go to confession with genuine contrition and repentance but afterwards still cannot recieve the eucharist because of cohabitation (civil marriage) should I be going to confession in the first place.
Please no Catholic bashing or protestant theological arguments. This question is really for other Catholics.

Moving out would be impossible as my wife and I have 2 babies together. She needs my help. We are making arrangement with our parish to have our marriage convalidated, there is alot involved and it takes some time.

Yes, you should still go to confession. It's good that you are taking the matter seriously and refraining from receiving the Eucharist until your marriage is validated. But in the meantime Confession is a wonderful source of sanctifying grace which you shouldn't neglect. It would be different if you were going to Confession with no intention of remedying your situation. But since you are taking definite steps in that direction, make use of Confession as a source of spiritual strength. Besides, there may be other sins you would need to confess.

I think that this should be directed to a priest, if at all possible. Or, for a variety of very orthodox and (for the most part) very educated opinions, pls try posting this at the forums of www.catholic.com

Is there any way to get the marriage blessed by the Church?

I can see the issue where you know you are in a state of sin, so how can you reconcile with God if you plan on remaining in the state of sin. No easy answers, but if you could give a few more details...

If you truly had contrition and repentance about the cohabitation, you would stop it. Going to confession is an important part of your faith (James 5:16) and I won't discourage it. However, it seems a bit hypocritical to me that you continue performing the act that requires confession after you confess.

Well, since the occassion for sin is with you everyday (I am speaking from a formalistic stand-point, and I don't really care to judge anyone here), then you will be committing the same 'sin' over and over!

My spouse and I were civilly married before we were married in church, and I just avoided the problem altogether by not going to confession, at least not for that 'sin'.

I did go to confession just before the wedding. You say you are working on a church wedding; good luck, best wishes and congratulations.

Yes, you should be going to confession.

Your repentance is clearly genuine because you are working to correct your situation in a manner that keeps you accountable to the Church. For your spiritual health you need absolution, regardless of whether you are able to receive the Eucharist at this time.

Well Chris, this is a sticky one. If I interpret our laws correctly the only marriages the RC church recognizes are the ones recognized in a CHURCH, before God.
If you were married in a civil ceremony, the church doesn't accept your marriage at all.
Bottom line I don't see why you can't receive confession or communion.

Greetings,
How are you? You are going for confession to repent for your sins and ask forgiveness. After telling your sins to the priest, tell him all that you are lacking behind whatever it might be. He will advice you.
Read the Bible. And love with all your heart. Pray to God always.
Ask God to Ignore all temptations, that are going on in your mind.
God Bless you.
