I got this cute pencil skirt that's grey and thought it was adorable, problem was, I couldn't find anything to GO with the skirt, when I did I got this sleveless black turtle neck, with those and black shoes or should I just go buy the new grey plaid ("Mary Jane's") from payless? I guess I'm asking 2 questions- which shoes and is the shirt going to be okay?

Went shopping at Bon-Ton, trouble with finding a "decent" shirt this time of year(Fall) is that most of the nice shirts already have black in them and if they don't, they're hawaiian and I don't want that.

Hi justsomegirl,
......what you have described sounds perfectly fine.... if you wanted to dress it up a bit..you could do so with jewelry...maybe a string of pearls ..or .. a bracelet ,necklace and earrings that match...not to big or chunking...you want to go for a classy look..not gaudy... but it should have a little glitz to it (sterling silver is beautifully with black).....as for the shoes I would go with black....the skirt being a gray will breakup your combination....maybe you could also get a little black beaded hand bag (if your skirt is silk you could go with a silk handbag) with embellishments the color of the jewelry you will wear ..it could tied the whole ensemble together .....
Best of luck to you...have fun at the wedding!

It sounds like a nice outfit, but more like something you'd wear to the office. Maybe I have the wrong image in my head, but it just sounds a little corporate or business like.
There's nothing wrong with wearing black nowadays to a wedding (as long as it's ordinary clothing), and either the turtle neck or the pencil skirt would be great, but maybe teamed with something else. The black shoes sound good with the skirt.
If you really can't find another top to go with the skirt, maybe dress the outfit up with some colourful, jewellery or a scarf?
I'm sure it will look nice, anyway. It does sound very smart.
Cheers :-)

If you are attending a causal/informal wedding, what you chose to wear will be just fine. I would really try to find another color shirt besides black. Pastels go well with grey as does an off-white color. If you are going to wear the black shirt, wear black shoes. The grey plaid mary janes are not suitable for a wedding.

Black is fine, but I wouldn't wear grey and black to a wedding, because those are colors for work cloths. If everything else fails, wear a black skirt and the top you have and wear a leopard scarf or leopard belt around your waist. You can pretty much use any color with black and you'll look like a million bucks.

Wearing black to a wedding is fine. I would add nice deep red shoes to you assemble. You don't want to look like you are attending a funereal,. You might also want to add a colorful silk scarf. I would not go with the black or Grey shoes.

You might find it interesting to know that in Germany, the lower class brides get married in black wedding dresses trimmed with red.
Black would be fine to wear to a wedding, as long as the bride and groom wouldn't get offended. Try coordinating some colors into your outfit...like turquoise, pink, lavender, or another color. Try finding some nice jewelry to wear to bring out the color of your eyes or take away some of the harshness of the black.

I would save the black shirt for some other time... If black looks good with the skirt, maybe a shirt of another color that has black in it would be nice?
P.S. Just a suggestion, if black looks good, maybe a black dressy jacket with a shirt of another color? (Last one I went to I did wear black pants and a black women's jacket with a narrow pink pinstripe, with a top that was kind of a deep purple-red. Looked really nice if I do say so myself.)

Skirt is grey... if it is a very light grey, you can wear a wine red top... will look great and attractive with red footwear. It will not be garish, i assure you. As someone else has already answered, you can use that black top for some other occasion ...

rules that we once thought were to be 'followed or die' aren't like that anymore...especially for an evening or late afternoon wedding, black/gray is perfectable, even elegant (although i wouldn't call what you describe 'elegant' but no matter). if that's what you want to wear, wear away and be comfy...sounds very cute, and if you FEEL good in it, you'll LOOK great!!
have fun! my sister is getting married tomorrow!!
