Bonuses and other irregular payments are subject to Federal withholding at a statutory rate of 25%. CA has a similar requirement though I don't recall the rate however 8% seems to ring a bell. Of course, 7.65% for FICA will be withheld as well.

That all depends on your tax bracket.
