You have been deceived... I can not offer any more than my testimony and witness... but many years before I came to know The Truth of God I was heavely recruted by some mormons very high in the cult... I came very close to joining up... untill I did some independent study beyond what the "elders" and the bishops were telling me... It is all deception... it was another 25 yrs before I came to The Truth of God and The True Christian Faith.... at the time I was being recruted by the mormons I was very much against the Christians... but even then I could see the Christians had much more to offer than the mormons ever could.... just took me a long time to find out what that was...at that time they were not claiming to be christians and were telling me the Christians were the enemy and the Christian Bible was a false book... I was believing them untill I learned they had their own "bible" and did not even let their own people study from it...so I went to find out why... it is so full of errors even the leaders do not follow it...yet the founders shouted loud to the world at the time that it was directly from God to J Smith and the only true bible... and nowdays they are claiming they are Christians and that they use the King James Bible...just change the shpeal to fit the crowd.... I invite you to visit my website for my testimony and witness... I can not prove The Truth to you... no one of The Faith can... but you can honestly seek God and there is hope he will reveal TheTruth to you as He did to me... here is the link to my site if you care to visit... http://www.mikesfaith.com

Cool! I've been told that I look like a Sister missionary, hehehe... I would totally love to go on a mission, I have 3 more years to desire ^_^
In your case, you can first finish your career and then go on a mission! Now... remember that the Lord always goes first and that you will be very blessed if you set two years to dedicate to do the Lord's work only! If you don't have the money, don't worry at all. The church helps to pay for it. If you are serious about the idea, try to start saving as much as you can because that will be helpful, plus, you will have help from your family and other people in the church would help too. The missionaries told me that if someone doesn't have the money to do a mission the church helps and makes it possible to go anyways... if you really wanna do it, there will be a possible way for you. Don't worry about $$$

Congrats for your baptism and I'm amazed by the fact that you are not even baptized and you are seen as a good missionary already. Go for it!!!!!!

YES!!!! And don't worry about the money, your ward (future ward) will sponsor your. They have $$ set aside for situations just like yours!!! It will the best experience of your life. I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! My little brother just got home from Germany/Austria mission. He loved it and he loves the people so much. JUST DO IT! Well pray first, but you know that Father wants you to go. Think about how it will feel to look into your future son's eyes and tell him why you went and what happened to you when you got there. It will help you to be a priesthood holder in your own home someday. I almost went right after I was baptized too. I was baptized at age 20 1/2. Just as I was getting ready to put in my papers, 2 things happened. 1. my boyfriend (who baptized me, now my husband) received a start date for the police academy. 2. His parents announce that they are moving back to Utah. So I decided to stay and help my hubby get through the academy. (They say that while in the academy you need a very strong support person for laundry/food/love.) I still wish to this day that I had that experience. But I do love missionary work. My neighbors joined the church 2 years ago. It is awesome to see the gospel change someone's life. DO IT!!! Please let me know via email what you decide.

I was baptised at 19 and decided to go on one before I was baptised. That's great you are getting baptised! Congrats! You'll notice you will have a great desire to read the scriptures often (The Standard Works). My Mom past away 4 months after my mission; and what a real test that was. But that didn't stop me from going on a mission. It was the best and hardest times of my life. Your testimony is what counts the most. I saved $2500.00 in a year working 2 jobs; it can be done! You will make a great missionary. And wait until you get your patriaricle blessing! I'll bet it'll say a lot of neat things in it too. You'll get the priesthood and be able to heal lots. Maybe you may convert your whole family; wouldn't that be great? Best of luck to you.

If you are pure in heart with true intent the finances will be provided for. If you were baptized today you couldn't turn in your papers for at least a year so you have some time to save up a few bucks and study a bit more toward your degree.

Prepare now, go when you're ready and stay away from all the really hot chicks who will sidetrack you.

Listen to LDS Mom she knows what she's on about.

Dont go on a mission or get baptized until you have a closer look at what you are getting involved with. In plain speech, the Mormon church is a false church and Joseph Smith is a false prophet and the claims of the church relating to it being the only true are false. That is simple enough to prove when you look at the book of Hebrews. It disproves the notion that Joseph Smith restored the true priesthood to the church.
I didn't get baptized until later than that. It was after I examined the claims of the Mormon church that I got baptized elsewhere.
You are supposed to save up that amount of money before you go on the mission. If you don't have the amount you need, then seriously consider going on a mission as a result of all of this.

I don't know who your stake president is, but mine said that you have to have at least a thousand dollars in order to go on a mission, and that the stake would provide the rest. I would bet that if you really didn't have any other resources, and you didn't have the money, your bishop and/or stake president would provide.

Anyone can become a great missionary, it's totally different when it shows before you go, and even before you're baptized.

You'd also have to wait a year, before you can go, so if you do decide to go, use that time to prepare (which involves more than going to the class.)

Good Luck.

If you truly believe in the LDS Church and doctrines, then I am happy for you and your decisions. I just hope and pray that you have searched to your satisfaction.

For me, it took me more than two decades to find out that the Church wasn't true. I was a missionary as well, and while I still wouldn't trade the experience for anything, I do realize that there are other ways to learn the life lessons that you learn on a mission.

I wish you the best of luck with whichever direction your life takes you.

PS: Since you're not satisfied with the answers, here's a quick PRO/CON list of going on a mission:

PRO: Humility, doctrinal knowledge (apologetic doctrine, that is), fiscal responsibility, possibly a language acquisition (you won't speak it fluently, although you'll go home thinking you do)

CON: Miss two years of valuable school time, risk "wasting 2 years" if you end up leaving the church, you'll probably have at least one gay companion (everyone gets one, although some of them don't realize it until he comes out like 10 years later... I had two), and your mission may hurt your faith more than it helps it (that may be a pro, depending on how you look at it)

Really, it's your choice and only yours. It depends on what you value more. You're grown up enough to know better when someone tells you you're joining a Satanic cult... it's not Satanic at all. It may not be true, but it's not Satanic either. Just keep your head on straight, don't catch the "One True Church Conceit" and you'll be fine.

Good luck!

good on ya buddy. im a fairly new convert, and hey i got baptised when i was 21....just early this year. im also the only lds in my family, for now.

and yes i am planning to serve a two-year mission, after i finish my degree, that is. so i still have a year and a half to prepare. by the time i'll go, i'll be 23. yep, i'll be ancient.

as for money, tell you what, i have nil, nought, zero, nothing at the mo. i dont have 9000, let alone 20K (that's how much lads have to pay here, im in new zealand btw). but i spoke with the 1st councelor of our branch pres, who's a really good mate of mine, and he told me that money shouldn't really hinder me from going on a mission. if that's what's stopping me, then i dont even have to worry about it. but still i will save bread.

should you go on a mission? beats me. but i suggest you pray to Heavenly Father and ask whether you should go or not. i know a couple of missionaries who were very unsure at first, but now theyre glad that theyre actually serving. anyways, if a lot of people would tell me that i'll make a good missionary, that'd boost my self-confidence to the roof. perhaps they see something special in you that makes them think that you will be able to serve a fulltime mission. well, i'll take that as a sign, but that's me.

at the mo, im helping the missionaries with tracting and visiting less-active members as often as my busy sched would permit. there was even a time that there was only one missionary left in our branch so i stayed with him for three days doing missionary work. it was the longest, most exhausting three days of my life. but man, i can tell it was worth it. im learning heaps just by hanging out with them, and the more im doing it, the more i want to serve a mission. perhaps you can do that too.

just remember bud, it is true that it is a tough choice of whether to serve a mission or not. it sure is a struggle, but it is a struggle worth fighting for. peace.

congratulations on your baptism.

Congratulations. I'm really happy that you are getting baptized. I've been wondering when it would be. The Elders must be excited.

Anyway, I wouldn't trade my mission for anything. It was great. Of course there were tough times and everything, but they are definitely growing experiences.

I would suggest saving as much as you can and talk to your branch president. There are ways to raise money for missionaries.

Good luck!

Congradulations!! I just got off my mission in march. And I have to tell you... it is defidently worth it. I loved it. I think everyone who can should go on a mission. I still miss sharing the gospel with people. It is very rewarding. And with money, the church will help you out as much as you need. So dont worry about money. But seriously, I think the best thing you could do is pray about it. And keep praying about it. The Lord will help you know and will comfort you. Well, Congrats again.
