The first thing you can do to get ready is to realize that there are no "girls" in the US Army - there are only Soldiers. The sooner you can understand that, the easier it will be for you to adjust to life in the military.

Anyone who thinks basic training is a purely physical thing should be taken outside and shot.

1 - It's not the most important thing, but physical fitness is a requirement and more of it helps somewhat. Get comfortably within the fitness standards. Whatever workout suits you, though lots of running and pushups helps.

2 - Recruits spend much of their time cleaning and doing the laundry. It's a good idea to do this frequently at home if you're not doing it already, because getting practice will make morning routine much less stressful.

3 - Learn to make hospital corners. I never learned how to make my bed properly, and had to take an apprenticeship in bedmaking under a more experienced recruit. If it saves you twenty minutes throughout the course, that's great!

4 - Now for a more gender specific thing - practice tying your hair up in a bun with hairpins. I have no idea how the female recruits in my platoon made time for it, but they did.

5 - Work experience - most people have it, but I just barely got accepted into the Army without it. I would have had an easier time if I had some experience in the work force. Fast food restaurants are great for this, as their employees are used to working with a sense of urgency.

Basic training for women is co-ed with the guys... combat arms jobs are all male basic training, but all other MOS (military occupation specialty). Basic training is a piece of cake and I heard now it is really easy, I went through about 6 years ago and it was not impossible. They will be eager to teach you discipline and how to be a soldier. You need a high school diploma, you should be not too overweight, and have minimal health issues... almost none. Do not worry about what you are like now, the military will mold you into what they want you to be!! HOOAAH

Make sure you are in shape before you go, or a least the best shape you can be in (if you are not in great shape don't worry they will help you out. When I got to basic I could barley do 3 sit ups by the time I left I was scoring 300 on my PT) Keep in mind that once you get to basic training you will not be a girl, you will be a soldier and not be treated any different than they guys. What ever you do DO NOT PULL THE "I'M JUST A GIRL" FLIRTY ACT! My close friend is a drill and is very good looking so when a girl pulls that crap he smokes her for hours! It will get you no-wear and put negative attention on you. The female drill instructors will be harder on you than the male ones, because they will expect more out of you. Good luck and thanks for your service.

brain there are shitbags in every service. last time i saw the airforce doing pt. (yeah it happens sometimes) no uniformity. you had some guys with shirts out, some in , and since when did underarmour become the sponsor for the af. until you fix the problems in your service don't try and talk sh!t about other people services.

like gunner said, it's more than the physical. also if you can find an old buffer, i would practice with that. get all of your loose ends tied up before you leave. finanicals, etc

and good luck to you

basic training is the same for both men and women. Whatever the guys do to get prepared is what you need to do as well.
