I would think the high percentage of divorce, the ever rising rate of couples living together outside marriage, and the large number of extramarital affairs would have destroyed any sanctity marriage had left.

it don't destroy marriage but it is against God but still the fact is no matter what their will always be marriage nobody can take it away but God {everything is in God's hands} Just like the fact that in the end all who stand up for the wrong thing and don't choose God will be destroyed. So why not choose God; it is not to late. God is a better choice then destruction. Nobody can destroy marriage though because God created that.

I hate the idea that some people have that Homosexuals are different from us "Normal" straight folks. I found that Homosexuals are pretty much the same as us... with the exception that they like the same sex. They are at no higher risk then any of us to get divorced, become spousal abusers, or have extramarital affairs. They are just as capable to provide a loving, nurturing home as any heterosexual. Isn't that the important part? If the marriage is not through the church then I don't understand why anyone would have any problem with it.

What people do in their own bedrooms is their business. Dont worry about what homosexuals are doing, worry about your own relationships and hope that your relationship doesn't fail.

Marriage isn't a non secular institute. a non secular ceremony is secondary in a marriage. In all fifty states marriage is a civil contract between 2 human beings and the state. a marriage carried out by a JP is purely as valid and righteous as one by a non secular respectable. many of the great combat in u . s . a . is from Christians imposing their faith on each physique. it is obviously unconstitutional. do no longer supply the enemy any innovations approximately banning atheists too. Walrus: Neither atheism nor theism could be seen a faith. the only end you could still wisely draw from "I 'm an theist or i'm a theist." is that man or woman the two believes in some god or does not. It substances no guidance approximately the rest in a man or woman's existence. by no skill is atheism a faith. advert: Rick is incorrect. real atheism? permit me introduce the No real Scotsman. Atheism has no longer something to do with faith. i think of you realize that atheism is purely the lack of ability of perception in any gods. Buddhism, the Tao and others are, by definition, religions without perception in gods.

I don't see this logic that homosexuals will "destroy marriages."

I've heard this argument in this context:

Traditional religions can not allow same-sex marriages because they have a set doctrine in which they recognize homosexuality to be a sin and therefore cannot perform such acts in a church or have the Lord bless a sinful union.

If churches perform such acts, it can destroy marriages in a sense. The church would be viewed as false, the marriage ceremony false and not blessed by God.
Previous marriage unions would put into question the validity of the union as being truly recognized by God.
Members could nullify their marriage on the grounds that it wasn't done by the proper "sacred," authority, they could convert to another religion, or simply convert their marriage to a civil union or maybe do nothing about it and forget it.

That's the only possibility I see.

Ummmm, ok, now not everyone that gets married believes in God. How does gay marriage destroy that? Two people love each other, and they get married. Where's the harm? Nobody, not even a bible thumping freak or self- righteous religious figure, can dictate who may love who. The world needs to get its butt out of the dark ages and get with the times.

These are just fires of fear started and fanned by religionists who have their own axes to grind.
There doesn't have to be any truth to propaganda; it just needs repeating often enough.

I'll bet in a coupla years when they take the statistics from Mass. they'll be similar or lower than the rest of US.

When supposedly upright religious people see how successful gay marriages work after they themselves have made such a miserable mess of their own marriage they will give up on the institution of matrimony. Straight people will no longer get married from shame and fear of failure and only gay marriage will survive

Marriage is a legally binding contract.. If people want to place a religious connotation on their marriage they can do that however it doesn't change the fact that marriages (all marriages) are first ad foremost legal contracts...

To repress a segment of a society will destroy that society.. Homosexuals should be able to legally marry just like everyone else..

One day I will watch as my son marries the man of his dreams.. That day will be a proud day for this Mom..
