I'm getting a root canal in early october for my cavity.

I have a very low pain tolerance, and have had TONS of fillings, cavities, crowns and such, but the procedures are a blur to me now, I don't remember much of anything.

My dentist put in a temporary filling today, [which hurt like h*ll, as they had to rinse with VERY cold water and shove it down in there to make it stay.]

My main concern is the needles before the procedure.

Will the procedure be done in one visit, with only one set of needles?

Is there any ways to numb me without needles that is covered by common insurance?

Will I be numb enough that I wont feel the injections?
HELP.

It is one of my molars.
It is a saveable tooth, I do not want to lose it if it can be saved, which it can, and easily.

Thank you though..

It all depends, but it wont be done in one procedure. They will probabaly put a crown on that root canal so you will need to come back for the permanent crown. They will proabbaly do a root canal and put a temp on there .

There is a way to numb without injections, but its just a small topical anesthetic to ease the pain of an injection. Tell your dentist you want topical before your local anesthtic and it should make the tissue aroudn the injections site numb so that you only feel a little pressure

i just went for one last tuesday, u dont even feel the needle it is a little pressure like if u put a lolly pop stick againts your gum thats it. then a few min later you mouth on the side where u had the needle goes numb. u can feel them working on your tooth only cause your awake. but u dont feel any pain. and u may have to go back for 2 more visits after the root canal. good luck its well worth it. u wont be in pain anymore.

ps. make sure u take some ibprofin or excedrin before the novacane wares off. u will feel pain after taht if u dont.

I've had several root canals and they are not that painful. In fact, the tooth is already dead so there are no nerves in it to cause pain. It is rather uncomfortable, especially if the root canal is performed on an upper front tooth (I've had two done) but I will say that there are other dental procedures that hurt a lot more. For me, the single most painful procedure is getting a tooth crowned.

ask for some numbing gel before they give you the shots, it is a series of multiple shots around the infected tooth, the gel should numb you enough to not feel the needle, after that you dont feel a thing, just close your eyes

I feel so bad for you. The needle isn't too bad. These days it's a bit of pressure and a little prik, then all goes numb and you don't have to worry.
Good luck. :)

Go to the chiropractor. You might just need a lower back adjustment. I used to have really bad lower back pain, but when i got my lower back adjusted, i felt great.
