So I read a lot about how some of us Christians are always the ones that think abortion is a sin or that being gay is a sin, etc...
Are there any Atheist who believe that abortions or being gay is a sin?
OR
Is this a dumb question?
Do you view it as a sin or a moral issue or a non-issue?
Thanks!

goddess of bubblegum…I'm not all of us Christians believe this way. That's why I said some of us Christians are viewed this way.
I, personally have several gay/bi friends and would never judge them or condemn them or anything like that.
I didn't mean to offend. I wasn't trying too. If I did, I'm sorry!

I don't believe in sin, but in immorality. I believe that abortion is murder, thus immoral. I have nothing against being gay, for i know that it is not a choice, but how they were born.

Anyone can say anything is a sin. I could tell you that eating hamburgers on monday night is a sin. Who are you or anyone else to determine if my belief is wrong or right. The point I am trying to make is.... Sin is in the eye of the beholder. Just because someone believes something does not make it so. Being gay is not a sin period. What is so wrong about two people falling in love with eachother. They face more hardships than we as hetrosexuals will ever face. If they are lucky enough to find love in this mixed up crazy world more power to them. Abortion is also not a sin. While I am not for or against abortion I believe that it is a choice that should be allowed. With the world in as much termoil that it is in today these so called issues are really non issues. If everyone stopped judging other people and just accepted people for who they are the world would be in a much better state of affairs.

Atheists don't think there is sin, they believe there is something wrong or bad and something right or good. I believe that abortion is sometimes a right for the mother, but then you should also consider the right of the embryo and the society that can accept it or no. Being gay is present in nature and is natural for some, I don't protest. Gay behavior is a choice. This issues are so much controversial and many disagree about its rightness, atheists or non atheists.
Morally and medically abortion is sometimes necessary, because of the complications that can occur due to pregnancy and the danger on the mother's health. And we can't say that gay behavior is not moral.
In the end, we are part of this nature and all these issues are natural processes that occur if we either agree or no about it.

Technically "sin" is only a religious belief, as it connotes that an action is prohibited by a supreme being.
From my perspective or morality, abortion, except in some circumstances is a really poor choice. On the flip side, abortion should be safe and legal (morality should not be legislated!!!). At a very personal level, there are many ways to prevent an unwanted pregnancy and many people that would love to give your child a loving home - this in my mind makes abortion wrong as a form of birth control.
Gayness is not wrong. No matter how much straight people don't like or understand it, it is not a choice. What is wrong or a "sin" is to impose restrictions on their or anyone else's lifestyle based on what you think is right and wrong.
Basically, to me, morality is about harming or not harming others and helping all species to survive, preferably in a pleasant manner.

I'd say for atheists, agnostics and people like me, it's more of a moral and legal issue than ever being a sin. Some people have rigid morals, some are very flexible in their morality. The rest of us hang around the middle ground, considering the principal of the law as well as the letter.

I accept my own Church's view of "sin", which is a literal reading of the Greek and Hebrew words, which both mean "miss the mark" and/or "fall short". However, to view abortion or homosexuality as "sins" even under this definition means that one would still have to see them as falling short of some standard or another. If ones standard sees nothing at all wrong with abortions or homosexuality, then one cannot consider them to be sins. That being said, it is possible for an atheist to consider abortion or homosexuality to be "sins"--as "falling short" of some "proper standard" of human behavior. One would have to come up with some fairly complex arguments, but one could come up with a standard that did not need to invoke a divine being.

Sin is a religious way of saying something is "immoral". So I suppose there COULD be atheists who feel that beign gay or having an abortion is immoral.
However, you will find that politically, atheists tend to be more in favor of change and reject traditional practices, so they more often than not favor abortion and gay marriage.

the word 'sin' technically means a transgression of divine law or god's will. since atheists don't believe in god, we don't really view anything really as a sin. abortion is a very largely debated issue, even with atheists (it's a moral issue, i suppose), but sexual orientation, to my knowledge, is not that big of an issue with most atheists.

I think that if Atheists do not believe in a higher power (God, Jesus..) they don't really believe in sins. They would chose decision like those based in ethics, experiences and their nurture. May not see it as a sin, but they may think it's not OK, not proper, not appropriated, good, bad, etc....

Bella, there are ten commandments. All of us are guilty of breaking them. Sin is the nature of humanity. We reject God's truth and his standard. But, some sins are being pushed on society. Many people are offended that they have a political lobby and a trade union in Hollywood shoving their agenda on us all the time.
However, we all have to face God for our sin, if we do not turn to Christ.

Atheists are the most illogical in this respect. They don't believe in God, but are the most preachy people on the planet.
They don't believe in sin, but if you disagree with their line of thinking, they want to have you banned from everything.
They don't believe in truth, but if you disagree with them, they will do everything possible to censure you.
