Hi. Oh this is familiar. My vet said you don't really have to use dog shampoo unless you don't get them anything else for fleas & ticks. You can use your own shampoo diluted about half & half. And every now & then a conditioner is really good for their skin & boy does it make their fur shiny & soft. I use it all the time now. It makes my Rosie sooo soft and smell so good. Hope this has helped you & your best friend.
Best, Lynnda~

Dawn dishwashing detergent is ok on greasy dirty coat. But it can be drying.

Better to go get some dog shampoo. I dilute it in a dish soap squirt bottle so it sudses easier and I use less and it rinses easier.

Human shampoo and soap is the wrong PH. In an emergency it could be used.

Any kind of moisturizing shampoo will be fine. Don't use too much and make sure to rinse well. Dont bathe too often either. This eliminates the natural oil in a dogs coat and on his skin and will make him itchy and uncomfortable. I use Pantene on mine, because that's what I have. Alot of people recommend dish soap, but I don't. It's too harsh. "Dawn takes grease out of your way"??? Remember this commercial? And it does, it leaves their skin too dry. If you have a problem with fleas or ticks then I suggest getting some frontline. Dishwashing liquid may (or may not) kill whats on the dog, but it won't prevent re-infestation.

Don't use dishwashing detergent - that's stupid. People shampoo is fine although I found out if I don' thoroughly rinse him he gets dandruff ( especially in the winter ). If fleas are a problem Adam's flea and tick shampoo is great. On the subject of fleas - Advantix is the only drops to use, more importantly the Hartz, Zodiac and other low cost drops SIMPLY DON'T WORK.

People shampoo. My friend shows dogs and pretty much only buys the shampoos from the beauty supply stores for dog washing.

I rarely bathe my dogs with dog shampoo. I use regular people shampoo and its much cheaper. And a little conditioner to make her smell good. I use baby shampoo so it won't hurt her eyes.

Baby Shampoo works fine if you have any. Otherwise, you;ll want to fill the sink or the tub or wherever you wash your pet with warm water and suds it up with bar soap. Just be sure to rinse well.

You can use "people" shampoo in a pinch -- baby shampoo is the best kind of "people" shampoo to use on a dog.

Lemon Dawn dish soap. Kills fleas, smells good and breaks up the grease and dirt. They use it to remove oil and birds and stuff after oil spills!
