A 4/5 month old kitten should be very playful and eating well. It does sound as if something may be wrong.
Has he been neutered yet? I've only had one male cat, but I understand they can get urinary tract blockages very easy. But if he is going to the litterbox ok without any straining, that is good.
Is there any cleaning chemicals he could have gotten into? Any household plants he could have chewed (quite a few are toxic)? Have you recently applied a flea product?
Has he recently had his well-kitten vaccinations? Sometimes they will feel a little sluggish from the shots.
Is he drinking normally, eventhough is refusing to eat? Has he vomited? Does he feel feverish? A kittens normal body temperature is 102 degrees, so if he did have a fever you would feel it easily since he would feel so warm to you.
If all the above are "no", and he was my kitty, I would just observe him thru the night and if he is still not eating, call the vet in the morning. If it had been more than just this evening that he had refused to eat, I would get him to the vet tonight.
And for a second opinion on clipping claws and baby food...I say okay. I used to volunteer at my vet's clinic and we usually clipped kittens/cats claws for the owners as part of the exam. Just as long as you don't get in the pink part...that hurts!
I give my cats baby food, too, sometimes as a treat and sometimes when they don't feel good. Especially my 16 yo. She has vomiting spells and will refuse the cat food. I give her a teaspoon of one of the meat flavored baby foods (no onion) several times a day for a day or two and she's back to her old self. We've run the battery of tests and no physical cause for the vomiting, so her vet has determine just gets an upset stomache! He approved the baby food as an emergency backup. Baby food can't be the diet because all the nutrients a cat or kitten needs are not there, but is okay for a treat.
Purrs and prayers for you and kitty!

young kitties get sick. and we have to figure it out, unless its obvious. If your kitty goes outside (or has an indoor buddy), he may have gotten into a tangle with another cat. only takes one swipe of a claw or tooth to cause bacteria to lodge under his skin and cause an infection. if you give him a mini exam, can you find any lumps? I've had them on legs, by the butt, behind the ears, etc, This would give him a fever, and make him feel sick. the vet tomorrow will be able to fix that. In the wild, they grow until they pop, I've never seen a life threatening one yet.
If your kitty has a viral infection, the vet can check the blood for specific tests there.
If your kitty is an out door cat, he may have eaten something outside (or inside) that makes him feel sick. fluids with the vet and support tomorrow will help there too.
When cats are sick they sleep and don't like to be disturbed. being grumpy and not eating normal is something to watch. Sounds like you are very watchful. let him sleep the night since it sounds like its only been a day, and tomorrow to his the vet.
If he is vomiting, or unresponsive or burning up (over 102 temperature), take him to emergency room.
Good luck!

Not really much you can do to make him feel better. But if you can get him on your lap, sometimes just petting them will make them feel more at ease. It worked for my cat years ago when it was very ill.
Im not sure if it works with cats, but ive always been told that feeling a dogs nose can help you tell whether they are feeling good or not. If its warm, the pet may not be feeling well.
Good luck, and I hope your kitty is feeling better soon.

Sometimes cats, even kittens, do things like that. I wouldn't worry unless he refuses to eat all day tomorrow as well. If you are really scared just call the vet in the morning, it can't hurt.

Leave him water, he's probably got an upset tummy. You might want to get some him some chewing grass from your local pet store. Also check to see if he-shes pooped. As sick as it sounds if shes blocked up,your should wet a papertowel with warm water and rub its little poo hole, this is what the Mama cat does to them as kittens and even though shes older, that might be it.Also check your power cords, she might've chewed one up enough to freak her out but not shock her, otherwise she'd be listless...good luck!

It's difficult when your cat can't tell you what's wrong. Your cat is definitely telling you something IS wrong, though. It could be a simple thing like a hairball, or it could be something more serious. The growling noises he is making could indicate he is in pain. Check the yellow pages to see if there is an emergency veterinary clinic in your area, and if there is, please make the trip.
Trying to figure out what is wrong with a cat or kitten is extremely difficult, particularly if the cat is an indoor-outdoor cat.

is he vaccinated? has he been dewormed?
did you feed him too much wet food - the cans often tell you to feed more than you really should.. (usually they only should have 1 teaspoon canned per feeding - at his age he should get 2 feedings a day)
was the food old?
DONT GIVE THEM BABY FOOD - baby food may contain bits of onion which are bad for cats (and dogs)
did anyone feed him milk?? milk is bad for cats and can cause upset tummy...
has he used his litter box lately?? check for stool being normal, runny, or bloody...

I can't help but to suspect your B/F. If the cat is hiding and he growls at your B/F and not at you, the cat's not sick. He's protecting himself from something (or someone) that caused him pain when you weren't looking.
