I know people often say you get what you pay for, but how do you know when the price seems too good to be true?

Good quality steel
Full tang construction (The blad and the metal in the handle are all one piece, from tip to tip)
No serrated edges.
Realistically though, as long as you don't get dirt cheap crap for ten dollars, a knife set will last the average kitchen for years.

I found out what I wanted by going to stores like Williams-Sonoma and what the cost was there.
You want a knife with a full tang that holds and edge. No serrated knives and anybody that tells you they're the best just doesn't know! One that holds and edge and is easy to keep sharp. They feel well balanced in your hand.
Then I bought a set of KershawShun on eBay at a 40% savings!
