Takes time to run a full scan - the bigger the HD the longer it takes. Set it to go when you know you will be busy doing something else for a while.

Most people complain about slowness but many don't understand the o/s you have and the programs you use. XP needs a minimum 512mg of ram while vista needs a minimum 1Gb...if you max out your ram you will see a difference in nortons it will move faster ...but if you still don't want to be bothered get the AVG...to find out how much ram what type of ram and how much it will cost go to memory4all.com use the scan if it says there is an error..go the manual route follow the directions...most times it will work ok though

Yah. Norton, although the most popular is also one of the slowest because of the mega bytes its eat while running or scanning. plus its real time virus protection eats bytes as well and add its firewall, symantec, and etc... they are eating memory bytes even when your doing nothing. I suggest Avast, or AVG. i like Avast more because its easy to use and free. you'll just have to register once a year (to get the activation key (they send it to your email) coz if not its a 30 day trial). dont worry no credit card registration. its free.

why cant you make a switch-over, the anti viruses -- such as : McAfee-Aol spl edition it is also free and very latest.the scanning may take time, but this is the latest and very nice.if you are very purticular about speed of scanning, you can download spyware terminater, which comes along with clam anti virus ,which works very fine and scanns very fast.its realtime portection ahs saved me in several instances.i am having both of this but i have diabled the clam antivirus,in order to avoid clashing of these two.i am very well protected and realy enjoy .with spyware terminator, comes websecurity gaurd ,which is excellent.get it from crawler.com and the mcafee-aol from aol security central.both are free and just fine.{mcafee downloads updates only with windows security switched on.yet no problem.} just try if you donta like it you have your option to remove.

the 1st you're able to do is open up activity supervisor to work out in case you spot any new foriegn procedures that weren't there earlier! And to be on the secure component, get a first rate AV and importantly save directly to date! Say as quickly as each week. in case you have have been given spyware/spyware, get carry of Webroot's spysweeper it is loose to purpose.
