The change in hormones causes both a change in metabolism, and a change in the cat's motivation. An intact cat is always searching for a mate, it causes him to be very active, and the hormones keep his metabolism going. When he's neutered, the hormones go away. He no longer wants to find a mate, so he lays around more, and his metabolism slows, so he needs less food. If he eats the same amount of food or more, he'll get fat.

A neutered cat is more likely to be less active, therefore they should not be fed as much as if they were entire.
But having said that, not all will get fat after de sexing. None of my animals have ever put on excess weight afterwards because I made sure of how much I fed them.
Also like humans, some cats are more likely to gain weight, so they need to be fed weight control formula. Having dry food available so they can graze is also a better way to keep them slim(ish). If they are fed wet, then they are more likely to gorge themselves.
For those people who will go on about dry food being bad for cats, especially neutered males, I will say this - it all depends on the quality of food you feed them. The cheaper varieties can cause renal problems, so make sure you feed good quality.
Of all the cats I have had - male and female and all de sexed - none have had renal problems.

it extremely is plenty from the reality. maximum human beings do not decrease back on a cat's nutrition after being neutered/spayed and then the cat gets fat. i've got had greater neutered cats then finished ones; - NONE of mine have been ever fat cats previously or after being neutered. all and sundry replaced into fed a series volume of nutrition and not unfastened fed. while you're unfastened feeding your cat, stop - and time table 2 nutrition an afternoon and get him to workout until he looses the burden.

Male Neutered Cats
They don't produce testosterone anymore and have unopposed estrogen that causes weight gain.

They go through a hormone change from the surgery, as well as tending to settle down as they get older.
People gain weight as they pass mile stones in the aging process.
Animals age faster than we humans, 7 years for our 1.

All animals have a high chance of gaining weight when they are neutered/spayed. This is because you are virtually taking away testosterone/progesterone that is constantly burning calories just by functioning. You basically shut down their reproductive tract (which is a good thing!), and its almost like decreasing their exercise!
