Weird question, I know. I just got on medical assistance because I need some major dental work done (and I take expensive prescriptions medications that I cannot afford otherwise). I live at home, have no savings, and don't currently have a job. My aunt called the welfare office about a week ago and they said that I would qualify for medical assistance no matter what because they would base it on my income, which is zero (even if I do still live at home).

Well I went in for my interview today, and my caseworker said that I CAN have medical assistance, but there is one stipulation: I cannot earn over $200 per month. This is a big deal to me because I need to start paying back a student loan, and I want to learn to drive so I need to pay car insurance. Basically, what job(s) can I get or do that would put me under that income limit? And I've already thought of paper routes, babysitting, dogwalking, etc (there aren't big demands for any of those here). Any help would be appreciated.

Sometimes receptionist jobs, especially part-time might keep you under that limit. How about limited days at Target or Wal-mart? Are you good with hair? my niece does her friends hair for a little bit of money (mostly just styling like twists and cascading curls.) If you have older items you can sell you may want to try an ebay business. That way you control the amount of income. Also try part-time telemarketing. If your medical condition will be permanent, you can apply for a total discharge where they will forgive your loans if you are deemed to be permanently and totally disabled. Good luck sweetie :)

First there should be some clarifications. So here are the assumptions I am making: You have a HS diploma and some college, have moved back in with your family, and don't have a car, liability insurance, or even a driver's license.

Second, you need to budget because I am not sure you can pay for those two items for less than $200. So call a few places to shop for liability insurance. Remember to consider a job would take out 7.65% for SS and Medicare. Then try to get the amount of the monthly student loan payment and see how much income that will take and if you could have money left for gas and other expenses.

Okay, now I will make some suggestions for jobs. Any local store or fast food restaurant could probably use some part-time help. Those companies like part-timers who are ineligible for benefits. They also have people who are out due to illness, vacation, or they quit. You could be the manager's contingency plan. I have also worked at jobs where they had or would love to have somebody working a few hours to do filing. The companies had somebody who was overworked, but in a small company, there is not enough work or money in their budget to add another full-time person. So just find any local small business and try them and I am sure you will be able to find a manager who can realize what a great fit you would be in their company.

This is something that you may consider. I work from home but make more than what you are asking. My question for you is where do you live? In the US is great. I work under Ameriplan as an independent business owner. I help people get discounted dental, medical, prescription and other benefits. I may be able to help if you contact me so we can talk. I can see what meds you have and see if they are on the list and I can see just how much you could be saving. If the savings are to your liking then you wouldn't need state assistance and you could become a business owner yourself if you like, paying back the student loan would be no problem with this company. My email is JMarsh327@ameriplan.net Please contact me, I would love to help out. I know how expensive it can be.

Any job will do, if you work few enough hours.

Restaurants hire retirees to bus tables during the noon rush. Many of them have similar restrictions because of social security.

They haven't told you the whole story. If you work in self-employment, it's not just earnings that matter, it's hours that you put in.

Rotsa ruck with your dental work. Many communities, there are no dentists, zero, zilch, that will work on people getting assistance, because assistance doesn't pay them very much for the work.

Garage sale! I've made up to $300 in one sale, just depends on what you have. Used CDs and DVDs sell really well, as do toys, camping equipment, hobby stuff. Clothes do not usually sell well. Try to avoid putting out junk; you can have a freebie junk box for bits of things if you like. CDs and DVDs should be in good condition. Also, knick-knacks and curios like little porcelain figures and cute or novelty items sell very well. If you're unsure of pricing, ask around at a garage sale some time in your area. Garage sales do best on weekends, like Saturdays.

Retail with very limited hours. Some offices that are open on weekends (real estate, new homes) need someone just a few hours a week.

Go on craig's list for your area and start looking around.
