I'm going to Disney in a few days, and kinda scared about the trip there by a Jet (since 9/11 incident )

Don't be scared. It was very relaxing for me.

My first flight was in a piston when I was about 4 y/o, so I don't know if I can help or not.

It likely won't be too scary. The preflight briefing by the cabin attendants might make you a little nervous, (do take it to heart, even if nobody else appears to be listening, I've had the oxygen mask drop in front of me in flight.)

It'll be a little noisy. You'll feel a bump as the pushback pushes you away from the gate, you'll feel the bumps in the taxiway as the plane taxis out, and it will get very loud when the engines howl to full power for take off.

Take some chewing gum, and be chewing the gum for take off, climb out and descent to help your ears pop. Take something to read, or an Ipod to listen to- it prevents you from having to listen to the person crammed like a sardine into the seat beside you and the inflight mags and catalogues blow goats. You can take a laptop with you for games, or a gameboy if you like; the cabin crew will tell you when you can use them.

I try to arrive an hour or so early, because the ability of TAS to single me out for a cavity search is more likely than a crash. A drink before you get to the airport, a drink at the airport and one on the flight should allow you to go to sleep and not worry about it.

For the most part, it's going to be like being stuffed into a badly crowded theater that you can't leave for the duration. Worse things can happen; I once managed to snag the only standby seat on a flight only to discover that I was going to be wedged between a pair of sisters, both of whom were quadruple my body mass. They were also devout baptists flying home to vote for Nagin; an hour long flight has never seemed as long to me in my life.

You'll hear the airplane's hydraulics whine to bring up or extend flaps and landing gear, accompanied with thumps and bangs the landing gear will make locking into place and the rush of wind in the landing gear wells. All perfectly normal, no need to panic.

Enjoy Disney.

Many first time flyers are nervous because of the sounds.
When you board, you will hear a lot of bumps and thuds. this is the luggage and freight being loaded.
Imagine sitting in a car when someone else is loading something in the trunk.
you'll hear a whine when the engines start up, this is normal. you'll also hear a roar as the plane takes off. The engines put out a lot of power. picture yourself as a passenger In a car , it is standing still, and now the driver floors it. What do you hear??
Once up, you'll be absolutely amazed how smooth it is. Now, you well experience an occasional bump. picture a car on the interstate. Every now and then, the road is not too smooth. Your experience in the air will be like this.

Your first flight will be something you will remember for a long, long time.
It;s ok to be nervous, but once you're in the air, that will vanish. Trust me.

It'll freak you out when the pilot tells you are 5 milers up in the air and going along at 500 miles per hour. I bet you never rode in a car that fast, did you??????

The first time you go in a plane you will be a little scared which is totally normal especially if you are a older person since it is a unknown. If you are a child you are less likely to get scared.

What you need to remember is air travel is more safer than traveling on the road so relax you are in good hands in the air.

it may seem scary, but air travel is very safe these days. i've flown alot since 9/11 and am glad there are more safety measures in place.

try to relax and turn on some good music or read something. if my mind is off all my worries then i have a better time!

ohhh, that kind of jet. You're more likely to get in a car accident driving to Disney than taking an air plane that's hijacked by terrorists.

Flying is still the safest way to travel, statistically. And it's something that everyone should experience at least once in their life. Besides, do you really have time to drive there and back? And risk a traffic accident along the way?

It isn't scary at all. Actually it's cool, but you'll find it kinda difficult to sleep. And don't worry, nowadays you need a battering ram to bust the cockpit door open, and even the dumbest hijacker knows he can't fit one of those in his hand luggage...Anyways, as people said, you're more likely to die on your trip to the airport than to end up in a hijacked plane(and die in it).

Don't worry, ever since that incident happened security has been tightened and pilots are tested ever more harder to prove that they will fly safely to almost anywhere in the world .
Since everything has been improved, flying has never been safer.
