I usually go to the gospel of John when I want a scripture that'll lift me up. It's full of joy and hope. But, if you're feeling down, may I suggest you go directly to Jesus and ask Him to help you? God bless you, sister.

Psalms is a great book of how one feels lost and God raises them up, for example Psalm 40 is a popular one. Also, Proverbs is excellent. You could read the story of Job over again, and see how he too felt lost but knew God had a plan and remained faithful.
Romans is my favorite though. and 1 Corinthians.

You need to make sure that you don't just read snippets here and there from what people tell you to read. Most people read the bible like they read an encyclopedia, they don't actually read it, which is understandable considering how choppy and poorly written as far as grammar goes (by todays standards), but if it's not acceptable if you are going to believe that everything in it is the direct word of god and absolutely true. I cannot respect that opinion if you haven't even read it.

Psalms is loaded with David's songs and prayers to God when he was in the wilderness running from King Saul.
Psalm 91 is a great place to start, then Psalm 36, then 23.

Read The Acts of the Apostels. Great story line, lots of action, shipwrecks, imprisonings, angels, debates, a council....good stuff. Not to mention a new character named Barnabas and the coming of the Holy Ghost.

I would pray and ask God which chapter you should read. But off the top of my head, something from the New Testament...perhaps the gospel of John. Psalms is also good for lifting your spirits.

I agree with Proverbs - it gives very good directions, very good advice and helps us stay on track. I really like the New Living Translation - plain English and very easy to read.
God Bless.
