anyone who loves God shouldn't own personal property? Like cars, houses, jewelry... Just curious.

I answered a question recently about vehicles Christians drive. It just struck me as odd.

this is kinda prejudice, isn't it?

i mean, you could say that "this atheist i know of thinks..." so and so .
or even that "some atheists would believe that" etc

but so say that so many non-believers think the exact same think is just not fair (especially since not that many people here even heard a statement like that

It's simple. The theme of practically every major religion is that "worldly pleasures" (cars, jewelry, sex) are temporary and illusory, and a hindrance to spiritual development. That's why monks and priests, Christian and other, often take vows of celibacy and poverty.

Most people are aware of this theme even if they aren't scholars. So if you make a point of showing off your religion, others might wonder why you're not meeting a monkish standard. For examples of hostility to wealth in the New Testament, look for the famous "eye of the needle" comment by Jesus, the Sermon on the Mount, and in the Acts of the Apostles.

It is really a simple principle and can be found in most spiritualities. The idea is that the human soul (spiritual) is more important than human body (material). If you want to pursue a spiritual destiny rather than a material destiny, you will try to eliminate as much of the material world from your life as possible. By eliminating material concerns you focus your attention on the spirit, which according to Christ is eternal. The material is only temporary.

Christians must battle three things, the world, the flesh, and the devil. Embracing poverty tackles the world. Embracing chastity tackles the flesh. Embracing humility tackles the devil.

I'm a non-believer, and I don't believe that.

Jesus, on the other hand, DID believe that. Read Matthew 6:19-24 and Matthew 19:16-24. Jesus instructs you that you must choose between treasures on Earth or treasures in heaven. You cannot have both. If you truly want to follow Jesus, why don't you follow him the way he said to? Sell your possessions, give the money to the poor, and go spread the word.

If you don't think that's a good idea, remember that it's not MY idea. Take it up with Jesus. He came up with it.

That's kinda weird. How can anyone not own personal property? Arn't clothes personal property? Underwear etc etc?
In Elizabethian (sp?) times, there were these people called Puritans. They believed that faith and faith alone would get u to heaven. Not donations, wealth, relics etc etc. They lived VERY simple lives, but they still owned SOME personal property :P

Well... I don't think that believers shouldn be allowed to vote, to be left in a position where you could influence the minds of children, or to procreate (got to eliminate the self-delusion gene from the gene pool)... but I don't see any harm in believers having cars, houses, jewelry, etc.

A "Non-believer" can't "logically" defeat your arguments so they fixate on some aspect of a particular religion and apply it globally across all religions.

In some weird way they see these attacks are even understandable. Much as you defend your faith they defend their lack. They have no "faith" so the very "absence" of faith becomes a faith in itself.

Granted it is empty and dark but it is a "belief" much like a belief in ones God.

That is absurd!! I am a christian....and I am blessed with everything mentioned here as far as property!!! I am thankful for what I have....God comes first though... always!!! My personal possessions are just that ...possessions are just things that we own...but I truly believe that God is the reason I have what I have!! Everything I have I owe it all to God!!

We don't really think that. We just like to point out what the bible says about it, and if you were a "real" Christians, Well, you get the idea.

I'm a non believer and I don't think that. I simply don't like when religious people come on to me saying that my life is doomed just because I don't love God. That's just disrespectful.
