Actually it depend on who you buy the dog from, what they selling it for and if you want to pay more than a dog worth.
Heck, I know people buy, sell and show Border Collies for big bucks. I got a Full Bred Border Collie from the Animal Shelter for $25. Did not have papers, but, I not need a paper. One day all the guys were bragging how their dog won this Ribbon and that competition. Finally, I spoke up and said; "My dog can round up a sausage biscuit faster than your dogs can scramble eggs"! They were speechless and knew I had the better dog.

It depends on several factors: the breeder, the lineage, quality of puppy, papers, size, etc. If you find a well known breeder with champion bloodline breeders that are AKC registered they will be more expensive than a family who breeds their dogs just for fun. Also the smaller sizes sell for more than the standard sizes but be aware of health problems that come with teacup sized dogs. If you are wanting the cheaper price, look online at either the yorkie or pomeranian rescue sites and you can find some nice looking dogs that need homes, all you have to do is apply to adopt and pay an adoption fee. Either that or look in a shelter or the local classifieds. That is where most backyard breeders sell their litters.
As far as which I like best, I have always loved yorkies but its more because I like their silky hair, not because their personality is better than a pom. I think they are both great dogs but remember they need constant grooming.

Yorkies are one of the most expensive breeds right now, Poms are fairly expensive too, but not quite as bad... you shouldn't get ANY dog based on price, do you even know anything about those breeds other than what they look like? You need to do some serious research on breeds and decide what qualities and traits you'd like in a dog. If all you want is a 'cheap' dog, have your dad take you to an animal shelter and rescue a homeless one- almost half of all dogs in rescues are purebred anyway, so maybe you'll run across a Pom or Yorkie in your search.

About the same. At the shelter, they usually have different prices for dogs depending on their size. You can find a small dog for $100-150 most of the time.
Plus you are saving a life!
And the adoption fee should include spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and hopefully a microchip.
Look at dogs near you at www.petfinder.com
Shelter dogs are not sickly and mean.
They are there because the owner died, doesn't want the dog anymore, doesn't have the time or energy to care for the dog, the dog is too much money, they want a different dog, they are moving, landlord wants the dog gone, etc.

depends where you live - availablity and demand...
also depends where you buy from and quality
pet stores always charge the MOST for the LOWEST quality - after all - it is thier goal to make a profit...
from a good breeder it will depend on the quality of the pup - better quality pup = more $, a good breeder will ALWAYS have show records for BOTH parents..
back yard breeders pretty much charge what ever they can get away with - about $400...
what do I like best of those?? depends on you - neither are good for being around kids - terriers of course being bred to hunt vermin are known for digging and biting... poms are a spitz breed and known for disliking kids..
if this is a first dog I suggest a mixed breed adopted from a shelter - or a Shih Tzu.
NEVER NEVER buy from a pet store...

Try http://www.petfinder.com
They have alot of dogs up for adoption that are looking for good home.
Cost wise they both run about the same ~ personally though, I am partial to Pom's always have been but Yorkies are also so very cute so basically, the decision is up to you. Both are very loyal, affectional little dogs, good luck...

We have two yorkies. One female one male. They are both good dogs. The male is a little bit of a spazz, very hyper but the female is very mellow and a good house dog. She trained very easily.

Don't buy a puppy new, go to an animal shelter and adopted a dog that hasn't had the best life.

Yorkies are more expensive. If I had a choice I'd get a Yorky.

Why have your dad buy one, when there are dogs at the shelter?
Plus, either dog is going to cost your dad:
* vaccines
* accessories (leash/collar)
* necessities - food
* incidentals - unplanned trips the vet
