I feel both companies make some great cars but after owning a good few Fords and them not lasting and always be repaired and with there engines and parts being cheap but dont last long.
This led me to Nissan iam on my 5th Nissan now and never looked back.

Its not fair to give all this stay American Speech,as iam sure the people whom say this dont just buy American clothes electronics, food etc etc.A car makes a car make that you enjoy or dislike through experience or bad reputation.
Iam sure that there is a lot of American jobs build around the Japanese car makers also.

So to me and where i live Nissan is the greater car and greater resale value.Ford is the most popular due to them being really cheap and easy to replace.

I was a salesman for Nissan and then Ford. The only thing bad I have to say about Ford is this.
1) they had a lawsuit shortly after they accused me of being gay and fired me
2) I love mustangs but since they remade the mustang the bodystyling has all been the same. It just seems that theres no originality
3) The fact that Ford dropped Jaguar and Range Rover was a very poor decision.
4) Ive met the CEO's and primary shareholders of Ford and had dinner with them and they are very stuck on themselves. I mean I know when you are the highest owning percentage of car markets you have money but that doesnt mean you have to take advantage of others and treat our waitress like crap.

I actually curently own both (Escape - bought in prefferance to an Xterra- and Sentra - bought in preference to a focus or mustang (note Sentra SER Spec V more to insure than the mustang)

Dont buy based on the following comment anyone!

"Ford, American built, American jobs, and the profits stay in America "

Unless you are buying a Crown Victoria or a Toyota Camry (thats right)you are not buying a car that has been entirely made in america. Every other manufacturer and model has parts that are made abroad or vehicles that are assembled abroad. The same goes for ownership, there are tie ins and shares all over so dont approach the purchase from a patriotic point of view - it just doesnt work.

Too answer the question though:

Nissan will mechanically last longer and have better build and finish, but repairs on average (especially low speed bumps ) will cost you more - recent survey showed nissan are actually the worst for this.

Ford should be cheap to run and parts and repairs will cost less , but you will have more of them.

This is a huge generalisation as you didnt state models you have in mind

Many Nissans are made in north America. Sentra Versa Altima Maxima Fronter truck Xterria Pathfinder and Titan and Armada and very soon The Rogue Nissan's next best crossover sport utility. And the Japan cars are Murano, 350Z and the new Skyline GTR comming middle of next year. Fords product line and almost all domestic auto makers are just as good as Nissan Toyota And Honda now. Why you say? Because GM and Dodge and Ford need to sell cars too. I am a bit worried about Ford's reluctance in recalling brake switches that catch fire. Park your fords out side untill you get it's recall done. ANd Ford say's recalls expire? At Nissan we recall 1986 Maximas still today. And customer service Nissan really works at that too.

ford , better make, easier to get parts for, reliable,
nissan more like a plastic calculator , parts not easy to come by, and when do they usually break

ok ford did not get the name "fixed or repaired daily" for nothing. If you are looking into getting a suv or car, then nissan is the way to go, the reason ford is going out of business is because they cant make a car worth a crap. If you are looking into getting a truck then it is a even split, but i prefer nissan over for anyday
