I still owe around $5,000 dollars on it (and I have saved up$4,000). I am not sure if I should fix it and try and sell it. Sell it for parts? Sell the body? I know nothing about cars and how much I could get it for now. I am the second owner it has around 81,000 miles on it and I bought it when it had 25,000 miles on it. Please help!!

You should be able to replace the engine with a used engine out of a wrecked car. Then back running again start shopping. A broken car will not return enough money to pay what you owe. Running 7 year old Golf might bring in enough to pay off the loan and 1,000 to start shopping for a new car.

Man i really thing you need to fix the car you got money saved but try seeing where you can get an engin..or fix the engin you got now try not putting alot of money in it and what ever you put in the car add it on to the price your going to sell it ...make back the money u spint and when you sell it tell the next owner that the timin belt broke and soo on but try no talking to much about the engin problem it not going to sell that way try your best and good luck..oh and dont sell parts here and there youll be stuck with a brokin down car out side your house !! kamel*

I have a Jetta 1.8T my timing belt broke as well and it wasn't pretty. This decision is on your shoulders. It's relatively low miles, you're looking at a good smack in the wallet to repair the top end of your motor or go through the hassle of trying to sell it for parts....

Try and find an engine that can be put in at a relatively low cost. You owe too much to just toss the cash away.

Unfortunately when the timing belt goes, it allows the valves to be bent by the pistons. The engine my not be bad, just the valves. Have it checked out by a reputable mechanic before you throw the towel in.

get a rebuild head online, complete with valves, springs ect. and replace it. this is assuming nothing else happened to the rest of the engine. this coming from a former 1.8t owner.
