In addition to the potential liability of letting underage folk cruise alone (insurance, etc,), the younger people have not acted responsibly in the past. Drinking smuggled booze, loud partying in the cabin disturbing other guests, they haven't followed the few rules that you find onboard, running up and down the halls at all hours of the night, destruction of property, throwing items overboard - like deck chairs, plates, etc.

The cruise lines used to offer really good prices and a good experience for high school senior class trips back in the late 70's and into the 80's. They were able to offer really good prices and lots of special things like pool dance parties, barbeques, private disco, etc. However, over the years, due to bad behavior and practically no control by the chaperones, their business would fall off during the traditional "senior trip" time of the year. Other passengers learned over the years not to sail during certain times because the ship was over run with out of control young people.

So, the cruiselines came up with the age restrictions. And, it has worked. They don't take senior trips anymore and won't let underage kids sail without a parent or guardian in the room.

Although Carnival has the policy that you must be over 21 or with someone 25, there were 2 table mates on my cruise that were both 19 years old. (This was back in 2000). Anyway, I asked how they were able to book, weather or not they had a parent with them. They stated that they were themselves (no large group) and that Carnival allowed them to book without a problem. I was surprised, since the age policy was in effect even then. However, they were on the cruise, so I don't know how/why it was allowed. You may want to call a cruiseline directly and find out.

Sorry, dude, but at 19 you are too young to cruise without someone older with you. Most ships do require at least one person be 25 or older in the cabin. No ship allows a 19 year old alone or with others same age or younger. I believe honeymooners are an exception - but check with the cruise line first.

For the exact reasons, contact the cruise lines directly. Anyone else would just be second-guessing the cruise lines. Personally, I think it is for the liability issues but that is my viewpoint.

basically the cruiselines had too many problems with under 21 folk and their behavior on ships (destructive, and disrupting other passengers cruise, ect.) so they made a rule that if no one is over 21 in a room some one has to be 25 (and basically be responsible for those under 21). All of the cruiselines have basically this stance.
take care
have a good time.

i might never cruise with something much less then a window, yet very almost continuously get a balcony. you sense like your in a closet on an interior cabin, yet some think of it incredibly is effective. I additionally choose princess as a results of fact the provider, foodstuff and cabins are somewhat wonderful. Carnival is effective, yet too many childrens. I take exhilaration in finer dinning too. We usually get a room close to the midsection of the deliver as a results of fact of much less flow. anybody has there priorities, so get what you might have the money for and in basic terms take exhilaration in the cruise.

The cruise lines have set the minimum age as a control measure. They want someone to manage people under 21y/o. You can book a room at 21 y/o but if anyone in the room is under 21y/o there has to be someone over 25 y/o and they must have a signed document from the parents saying the 25y/o is the legal guardian. It is a measure taken due to problems and legal issue from past experience. Persons who are married and under 21 y/o may book cruises but they must have a valid marriage certificate.

This is common for all cruise ships.

Unfortunately, you will need someone 25 or older to accompanie you, since you are 19 years of age. There are a lot of factors involved. One of those factors are the alcohol serve onboard. The cruise lines do not want to be held responsible for underage drinkers. Therefore it is best that they enforce supervision. There are many legalites involved, but it is in the best interest of the cruise line and guests to ensure the safety of underage guests on board the ships.

Carnival Cruise lines requires that the persons booking the cruise must be at least 25 years of age. All of the other cruise lines allow persons age 21 and above to book. The cruise lines want to be sure that there is a responsible adult in each cabin and age 21, or 25 for Carnival, is the age they selected because at that age every person is a legal adult.

Here's Carnival's policy:

"Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older. The exceptions Carnival will make to this policy are:

Married minor couple - The booking must be documented that the couple is married. The couple must have proof of marriage at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund. "

The requirement on Royal Caribbean, Princess and other cruise lines are different. They require that at least one person be age 21 or older.

Here's the Royal Caribbean policy straight from their web site:

"No guest under the age of twenty-one (21) will be reserved in a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult twenty-one (21) years of age, or older. This age limit will be waived for minor children sailing with their parents or guardians in adjacent staterooms or under-aged married couples (proof of marriage is required). Royal Caribbean International reserves the right to ask for proof of age. Royal Caribbean Internationals age policy for gambling and consumption of alcoholic beverages is as follows: Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation."

Here's what Princess requires:

"Passengers under the age of 21 years must be accompanied by a Passenger 21 years or older who shall assume responsibility for their care during the cruise. Each Passenger hereby agrees and warrants that he/she will supervise any Passenger in his/her care at all times to ensure all policies, along with all other rules of the Carrier and ship, are strictly adhered to by all Passengers under their supervision. No alcohol may be purchased or consumed by any Passengers under the age of 21. No Passenger under the age of 21 shall be permitted to engage in any gaming activities on board the ship. No Passenger under the age of 18 shall be permitted to purchase cigarettes or tobacco products. Passengers hereby agree not to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind (except wine and champagne) on board for consumption."

So you can have someone go with you who is age 21 on any cruise line except Carnival and you will also have a much better cruise.

There is an exception for Honeymooners. I guess they spend so much time in their cabin that they don't bother anybody else.

the person doesn't neccessarily need to be the guardian. just over 25. my sister (21) and me took a cruise and then she took one with her boyfriend. have you looked at royal caribbean? i don't think that they have the same age limits but not sure.
