I discovered that my kittens (6mths old) had fleas two weeks ago. I used Frontline plus on them and combed out any dead fleas, dirt, etc. They seem to be content and are not scratching like before. I cleaned my enitre house and used some carpet powder that "kills fleas and eggs". I did this for a few days, but stopped bc I did not see any more. I THOUGHT they were gone. Long behold...last night i foung three on me. Question: Can they still be biting the cats?? (FYI Im having an exterminator come tomorrow)

The other thing about fleas is that they can lay dormant for a time until "food" is present, so yes they can be in the carpet etc. I use advantage for my cat and frontline for my dog and I haven't had a problem. BUT Spring and Summer is flea season and it is particularly difficult to get rid of them so make sure to continue the flea treatment all year round. Between the flea meds, the carpet treatment and the exterminator you should be OK.

I live in a small city/suburban area and my cats stay inside 100% of the time. It is a fairly quiet neighborhood but there's still plenty of cars and bicycles. Keeping them indoors means I don't have to worry about them running into the street, being torn apart by my neighbors' dogs, eating something poisonous they find in someone's trash, etc. I don't think it's cruel at all to give my cats the best shot possible at a long, healthy, happy life. If I were keeping them shut in a room with no light ignoring them all day that would be one thing, but they have lots of windows and get plenty of exercising playing with each other and with us. The cats I see outdoors are almost always in bad shape - dirty, skinny, a little rough around the edges if you know what I mean. These are not strays either, many have collars (in fact just yesterday I had to loosen the collar on one outdoor cat because it was literally choking the poor thing) and I know they belong to various neighbors. From what I've seen, the whole "outdoor cats are happier" claim is far from the truth.

yes they can still be biting..frontline is good at killing fleas however the only down side is that in order for frontline to kill the flea, the flea actually has to bite the pet. you should really get some advantage. that kills fleas as soon as they come in contact with the skin. that way your pet isnt getting bit. if you buy advantage from a licensed vet the advantage guarentees their product so if it doesnt work, you will get a full refund. advantage will also kill the entire life cycle within 3 months. (this means all fleas in your home)

Fleas don't live on your cat. They FEED from your cat, but they LIVE in your home (beds, carpets, heat vents etc).
We had to treat our home 3 times before they were completely gone.
Good Luck

HECKS YEAH THEY CAN....my sister used 2 stay in jacksonville, florida and had 2 labs. she had a upstairs porch that the dogs went on very sparringly...i walked out on that porch with some white tube sock and in about 5 minutes i have all these black specks on them...upon closer inspection they turned out 2 be fleas...probaly about 20-30 of them...and the dogs had flea collars and got flea baths regularly...so yeah they can live with out a host...and it's possible for them 2 b biting the cat, you and whoever else is in the house...GOOD LUCK WITH THAT

After you have the exterminater come keep the cats inside the house so they won't get fleas.
