Like the first guy said...imagine there *is* no god and live that way for a while. The whole "relationship with God" just disappeared (and get this, even if there is a god, that relationship you have with the god you imagined didn't exist is good enough to see you through this life).

What are your questions specifically? If you have access to XM radio, listen or call the BibleAnswerMan on channel 170 at 6pm mon-fri. I think there's a website too if you want to search. I know what you're talking about though, but I would be real careful about who you ask and what answers you accept. Always make sure their answers are bible-based. If you haven't read the entire bible, start now. You would not believe how many people take text out of context.
Another good online source...go to crossdaily.com forum section and ask there. Some very knowledgeable people there, many are pastors- I'm sure they would be glad to answer your questions.

The Bible clearly tells us that the Truth will set us free! That Truth is the same Truth you are now seeking. Sometimes things just do not make sense. And you are absolutely right!, We do not know it all. In these circumstances we must pray to God to guide us to the answer we seek. Perhaps if you email me your questions, I will be more than happy to help you with these answers. If I do not know the answer, I will let you know, but I will research them.
I am not a pastor, just a Knight serving God here on Earth.

first, change churches! A pastor or preacher should be willing to take the time to help you understand the answer he/she is giving you to a problem or a question. If you are being given a short shift, then find someone else to ask.
I must really encourage you to find more time to read the Bible. This may sound trite, but in a Gideon's Bible like you would find in a hotel room, there is usually a list in the back of general topics and a reference to passages that address those particular issues. Try that.

Maybe the ones you're asking really don't have a clue, so they give you rubber stamp answers. You might need to look further afield than your church. A Bible study class might be a good idea. Wish I could help. Good luck in your search.
Is there anything angrier than an atheist? On this site at least, most of them seem to be full of spite and resentment. I don't understand why they would come on a site called Religion and Spirituality, when they don't seem to have either.

I have two suggestions for you.
1) Find new pastors. If they can't answer questions of faith, they are not much use to you. Find some that can. Even if it means going to a new church.
2) Ask God. One of the lessons we are taught is that without His help, we will never truly understand. Pray to Him for clarity of thought and knowledge of His will for you. He will answer your prayers.
As an aside, you have a lot of good theologians here. You might try asking your questions of us and see if we can shed some light for you. Yes, you'll get a lot of junk answers, but you might also get some good ones that you can use.
Good luck on your journey and God be with you.

I agree with David D in regards to the fact that the pastors should be taking time.
If you would like, you can email me questions and maybe I can help you figure out your answers. Sometimes there isn't just one straight answer.
I am really sorry that you have run into this stumbling block at your church.
Again, email me if you want to discuss anything. I'd be more than happy to help.
God bless you for wanting to improve your relationship with God! Pray that God will help you to understand and lead you to truth, God has all the answers! :)

Maybe you should try a different church. God is love, but some things need a little more spelled out. I agree; I personally dislike vague preaching. Not all preachers are like that!
Try Joyce Meyer; she's a good t.v. and radio preacher who really helps people understand how to apply the Bible to their everyday lives. She tells on herself too, which is both humorous and encouraging. For example, one time she was trying to eavesdrop on some people downstairs and she put her ear to the floor vent trying to hear them. Then she heard from God, pointing out how ridiculous she was behaving.

Also check out this site, which has some very good explanations of a lot of things, although I personally disagree with their views on women preaching. Lots of other good stuff, though!

You might consider getting a Life Application Study Bible, which I have found helpful. It comes in many translations (NRSV, KJV, etc.) with study notes on every page.

I know it may sound cliche' but, the only way to improve your relationship is to read the Word and study it. Pray and don't cease and you will see that you will draw closer to Him. I did. You can't believe the person that I used to be before God saved me. That is why I am so adament about talking about His saving power. If I drew closer to Him and I was the way that I was then that proves that God is true.

If you really want to talk spirituality, email me (profile) and I would love to talk to you! I have been down this path before and have really studied Christianity just to find that a lot of it has been tampered with (interpretations). God bless and good luck!
