nobody was allowed in. Not one person. I take that back, the base commander, thats it. I guess you're right, they didn't HAVE to let people in. I was just curious because most everbody else were being let in other planes.

People that own planes and have customized them or restored them have a LOT of money into them. I would guess that they didnt want to have to worry about people messing with anything. The cost of any part for any aircraft is astronomical because it all has to be FAA certified and that doubles the price of a part right up front!

I am guessing that they also may not want the liability should someone get hurt getting into/out of... or even being in it.

Generally, most planes at any given show are 'not touchable'.. if you want to check out the insides of planes, you would more likely be able to at an air museum, but even there, depending on if the plane is privately owned or a 'tourable' facility owned.. you may not be able to go 'into' the plane

We have over a 1/2 million invested in our planes and would probably rope them off too....

You don't specify if others were allowed to tour it, and you weren't; also what exactly the circumstances were.
Bottom line, one doesn't have to let folks in-when I did shows way back when in an F4G, we seldom let folks in the cockpit. If only because if you aren't watching like a hawk, it's amazingly what folks will do. They'll play with switches, grab stuff etc.
Now we had zero problem with letting people look in, and occasionally if it was a little kid we'd put them in the, safed, seat so mom and dad could take a picture-let me put it another way:
Would you want a bunch of people you don't know, who might have been having a few beers, sit inside your custom cherry car, and play with all the controls?
No, I didn't think so.

It could very well be that the plane was not set up for people to go through without a lot of wear and tear associated with 400 snotty nosed kids and their big gulps.

Perhaps it was meant to be viewed from outside (paint job) and the honour of going inside was reserved for the privileged few by invitation.

It all depends on the owner of the plane. Maybe they didn't want to risk damage, or didn't have insurance to cover that kind of thing.
