I am looking to volunteer at my local hospital a couple of hours a week and I look forward to it.

My question is what is the best way to act what is the best way to react in tough situations?

Also what are things a volunteer should not do? Even though a hospital has spiriutality when is a good time to talk about God when is a good time not to talk about God? Or should the patient iniate the conversation? How does one go about being a hosptial chaplain or someone to talk to the patients about spiritual things? Thanks for your answers:)

I'm a CNA and we're told to let the patient bring it up. If they ask a question, you're allowed to say "I believe..." but you have to stick with answering the question, not keep expanding on the subject. You can read the Bible to them if they ask, but not if they are Muslim or a group that does not follow the Bible.
You will probably have some kind of orientation that will explain what is allowed.

Are you volunteering in order to proselytize or do you sincerely wish to help? As a nonChristian I will say that I don't appreciate it when others initiate conversations with me about God. I hold my own beliefs and they are dear to me and personal. If you were a volunteer and came into my hospital room to "share the Lord" I would ask you to leave. Volunteer to help, not to proselytize.

I guess I'm a little confused by your question. What is it that you wish to volunteer to do? Preach? Share your testimony? Bring people to Christ? Or is it to serve the needs of everyone, regardless of their level of belief or non-belief? You can being someone to the Lord by cleaning a bedpan or smiling at them, bringing them a magazine or just holding their hand when they are scared.

If you truly want to help everyone, go through the hospital orientation and do what is asked of you. If you are going there to serve, please, serve everyone.

Go to your local Hospital volunteer, and in a short time if you can listen to people you will learn the answers to your Questions. "Just do it."
