I bought a can of Canadian nightcrawlers to go fishing but I won’t be able to go fishing so I want to know can I get rid of them.
I know that with adequate refrigeration (I think its 38f) they can last for 10 days but I won’t be able to go fishing for a month.
I live in Wisconsin US, maybe I could just release them in my yard or could that be wrong or ilegal here?

It's not about someone finding out that I released the worms in my backyard, I asked because I bought them mat a store and I don't know if they are jrom here (WI), you know what could happen if you release a snakehead fish in a lake where they are not supposed to be, maybe the same could happen with the canadian nightcrawlers.
I just want to be enviromentally responsable. :)

Let them go in your back yard. We promise, we won't tell anyone.

It's great that you are trying to be environmentally responsible. If we had more people like you, we wouldn't have as many invasive species altering the ecosystems, like snakeheads, flying carp and recently piranha in North or South Carolina. Never dump your bait into a creek, lake or even pond, but I think backyard should be okay. Put them in a place that stays shady & cool- maybe under a shed- and then throw some compost (grounds, peels, leftovers) on them once in a while- you may never have to buy bait again!

it is safe to release them it will have no impact on the enviroment!
Or just add some yellow corn meal for food about a dime sized amount that should feed them good for several days!
The best way to feed them is place the corn meal in center of worm box on top of soil and let them feed outside of fridge for while(keep lid on)!Place back in fridge and after 3 days take out any extra corn meal and do this every week and worms should last long time!

I would imagine its ok to release them in your yard . Sometimes they will keep for a long time in the fridge they can be kept slightly cooler than 38 degrees

Put them in an empty jar and seal it and lve it in the sun for a couple of days. Makes great catfish dip. If not then just dump it in your garden or lawn. If they are local should be no problem to dump them live.

If you have a garden, that's a great place to release them. Pretty soon, you'll be able to dig your own bait and save $$$$$.
