I remember when I was a child, in Sunday school, it wasn't so closed in.

By boarding I mean covering or painting over them. A lot of new buildings don't even have very many windows.

Where are these churches that you speak of?

That might give you a little insight as to why...as for around here, I don't see a whole lot of boarded up windows at the churches, mosques, or other houses of worship. The only ones I can think of, are the ones that are about to be torn down.

Probably to help the congregation concentrate on the sermon or the other activities of the church. It is sometimes difficult for pastors or teachers to get the complete attention of the listeners, when something is going on outside that is demanding attention.
