Training, and the best NCOs and Officers in the world. Not to mention the quality of the majority of those who serve! Same goes for all our Services!
By the way, to those of you who mention technology, yes that's important and a force multiplier. But if you look at History, even when our enemies had more and better weapons (like most of WWII), we prevailed in any case due to two things, our skilled, motivated soldiers (trained and pushed by NCOs) and logistics (our officers).

It is filled with Americans and we have the most money to get the best equipment. There are certainly units of other Armies that would give us quite a fight if we didn't have the other assets to help the men on the ground.

Ah, you must be referring to the Royal Dutch Army? Well, you must be, because I'd go so far as to say it's obviously because of the better training and experience. Definately the best training available in the world, of course.

High military spending = Lots of manpower, best training, best technology and equipment. = Best Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force
Oh and it's all voluntary too. That contributes to the quality of individuals in it.

Who told you that fairy tale?
Have you ever heard of the Israeli army? They went deep into enemy territory, in broad daylight and dismantled an entire radar station, and brought it back to Israel with them.
They flew into an airport in a foreign nation and liberated over 200 people being held hostage by their sworn enemies. And made it home alive with all their civilians alive.
Something worth thinking about. Since Osama bin Laden is still roaming around the caves of Afghanistan and thru Pakistan and making videotapes. I have to wonder. Which Army are we talking about.

Because it's democratic...any army that's run by a people and not just one person (or group of people) has the interests of many at heart and is therefore better.
