How would someone home distill a brandy or whiskey?

I have just finished makeing home-made apple cider. I wanted to make it into an apple-brandy. I tried freeze distilation but that didn't seem to work. Any other ideas?

You could go to a local homebrewing store and buy a whole still setup for "making distilled water and vinegar". Just make sure you don't get caught making hooch as it is illegal to distill spirits without a license.
