What do you think of my solution to the immigration problem?

We cannot deport 12 million illegals. Our economy would collapse and we would rip apart many families that have been an asset to our country. Therefore:

Give all illegals 3 months to turn themselves into a police station of their choice. They will be arrested and if they plead guilty they will be given 2 years probation and must carry a national I.D. card the rest of their lives (assuming they have no criminial convictions). Employers found employing illegals after that will be fined $20,000 per employee.

This is not amnesty because the illegals will be found guilty or deported. They will serve their sentence (probation). Those who have been waiting patiently and legally - no its not fair to them. But maybe getting control of the situation would help them finally get to enter the country legally.

bluddy-well: This applies to ANYONE here illegally. I don't care if they are Chinese, Mexican, English, or from some other planet.

I don't see why you think we can't deport 12 million illegals. These illegals are not really doing anything for our economy. We need to just send them back to where they came from. But I do believe you are right about Employers that are using illegals. They need to be fined at great deal for each and every illegal they are using. I believe if we did that it would have in this situation more.

You have already posted this before. (you do have that right)
However, I totally disagree with you.
You say it is not fair to them. I say it is not fair to the legal citizens and tax payers.
You said if we deport our economy would collapse. NO it would adapt.
You said that if we deport families and children would be ripped apart. NO again. If the families are ripped apart it is b/c of choices they (the illegals) made. They bring that on themselves.

Fine those who hire illegals
Deport people when it is found out they are illegal
Cut off all public assistance to illegals
Boycott companies that hire illegals and cater to them
Get the people out of office who support illegals
Don't vote for a president that supports illegals

You need to expand slightly. Make those working and their employers pay into a fund that is equal to social security, use this money to help pay for services for immigrants. Make immigrants reach certain benchmarks of English proficiency over short periods of time. Charge each "pending" immigrant $250.00 per person every time they reenter the country - use this money to fund border enforcement. Repeal the law that allows children born here to automatically be citizens.

Problem with your solution is that due to racism and xenophobia most illegals would be afraid of turning themselves in. Sadly the authorities are not trustworthy in the eyes of lots of people in the minorities.

I think it won't work. The reason I think it won't work is simple - that was already tried in '86: Grant amnesty to get the illegals 'out of the shadows,' then enforce the law to reduce future illegal immigration. And, it didn't work. The 12-20 million illegals in the country now illustrate that failure, quite eloquently.
