It failed miserably in 1986, all it did was promote more illegal immigration. If that were to happen again then we will have another 20million wanting amnesty in another 20 years. Once again I am Hispanic (not mexican) so im not racist.

Some estimates. say that amnesty would only reduce illegal immigration by 25%, so no. For those that want a solution, it would be to enforce and fund our immigration laws, and fine and jail those who hire the illigals
I think I heard those estimates on Lou Dobbs, and I think it was the CBO, Congressional Budget Office
It was also cited in a Heritage foundation study by Robert Recker
Being in 1986 we granted amnesty to 3.1 million, and 20 years later we have between 12-20, demanding amensty, so that does show that all that amnesty brings is more demands for more amesty.

I am pro amnesty & think amnesty along with other harsh laws towards illegals & employers would work this time around. I believe US citizens are paying now big time because Us immigration laws haven't been enforced for decades. So now the ones who are suffering and will suffer in yrs to come are the children of illegal immigrants who are U.S. citizens. What of them, u talk about discriminating or the suffering of our own children then these too are US citizens & will also suffer if their parents are deported. Should we deprive them of their citizenship & rights & deport them w/their parents or should we deport their parents & place them into foster/state care so that system will be additionally overloaded at the cost of taxpayers as well. See u fail to see that this immigration issue has snowballed in the past 2-3 decades so that these illegals have had US children, bought homes, cars, etc. What of that if they r deported how many more homes will foreclose & cause more strain on the economy.
My point here is that the US has caused a stream of problems by not enforcing laws since the last amnesty and now there is no realistic and harmless way of dealing with the problem w/out causing chaos to both legal and illegal peopole living in the US (including citizens)!

I honestly don't know how the pro-amnesty crowd thinks it will work. ALL estimates show the financial destruction it would cause. The Senate's bill even made the idea worse with all the loop-holes that the illegals could use to not pay any fees or fines.
I am also sick of how they, and the Washington weasels, keep saying there are 7 to 12 million "undocumented Americans." 12 million was the estimate in 2005 and I positive it has increase in 2 years. TRY 20 to 30 MILLION CRIMINALS THAT HAVE INVADED OUR COUNTRY!
Crack down on employers to dry up the job market. Build the wall - self deportation since there are no jobs. Close the borders. ENFORCE OUR CURRENT LAWS!

I wouldn't have assumed that you are racist by your statement, at all. I am not sure why you stated it like that. You made no mention of race- only legal status... I couldn't assume there was racial motivation.
I don't think any of us- atleast I am not- promoting amnesty. I don't think that would be in the best interest of our country. I am suggesting a program that would allow them to be working here- and paying into our system while they live here. I would like for them to be paying for taxes (all of them). I think the answer is to find a way for them to stay here but not be able to access assistance programs (TANF) while here.

Your right Deportation is not the answer, We need to do more for these poor people. so We will put your @sses in Jail for a few years then deport your @ss then you can stand in line and beg to get back in. I say none of you get back in, and that We Allow NO ONE in the Country for 7 years. We have a growing problem in America already with Social Security, Health Care, and Almost every company stealing from the Public, while our government sit idle. We need to stand up and fix our Country. Illegals Need to go home. When we fix our Country we will send you an invitation to stand in that line to get here. If you are illegal We are comming to get you.

are you totally oblivious to any of our arguments? Do you even care or you keep saying any solution is "amnesty"?
oh my...
nobody argues for amnesty...you can have them go though background checks and have them pay fines as a PENALTY and acknowledge that they committed a CRIME overstaying or crossing...
me2, can you share these estimates with us?
If thats your solution, you also need to do that to every other American citizen child...cant discriminate against their children, so says a Supreme Court decision. thats not my decision, thats the Supreme Courts...why do you think they can go to public schools? And if you are talking about the anchor babies those kids will never leave...
