Hi,

PowerPoint is not free.

However, dStud395 has pointed out that there is a program (made by Sun Microsystems - a pretty big company) called OpenOffice and it can open, save, and create presentations using Microsoft's PowerPoint file format.

I am not as enthusiastic about the product as dStud is, however. The interface is not the same unless you comparing current OpenOffice to PowerPoint version 4. In that case the look and feel is very similar. The OpenOffice feature set is different, the fonts are handled differently, PowerPoint macros won't work, and there are hundreds of other differences (a few things are better, but most are worse).

OpenOffice's claim to fame is the price, which is free! So while OpenOffice doesn't offer everything you will find in Microsoft Office, it is certainly a good alternative for the thrifty seeking basic PowerPoint functionality.

You will actually have to purchase Microsoft Office to be able to make use of the Power Point software to create presentations. There is a free Power Point viewer available available that will allow you to be able to view a presentation, but you will not be able to make modifications to it.

If you simply need to create a presentation, you may use the Impress software that is contained in Open Office which is a free software available for download. You may have to read the help menu to be able to work with the software, but it's functional and will allow you to create a presentation. It's not that different from Power Point. You may find the download at www.openoffice.org. Hope this helps!

There is a really cool program called OpenOffice.org. It is a free, open source version of Office. It is made by Sun Microsystems and is powered by Java. Its interface is identical to Microsoft Office and it compatible. Check it out at:
