If you aren't tough enough to go into the navy you have a serious toughness problem. As a navy vet, I was always a little disappointed that it wasn't tougher. This is one where you shouldn't listen to your dad and go join the navy.

You must go on a journey. Climb many a mountain, break countless boulders with your firsts on the endless walks in the desert. When you have defeated the ruthless gangs of Hong Kong by merely channeling energy through your thumbs, you know you will be ready to join the Navy.

Actually, the answer is pretty simple. Practice your life skills a bit - you know, clean windows, wash the toilet, do your own laundry, make your bed every morning with hospital corners. Get some work experience if you haven't already. If you're fit enough to pass the fitness tests after that, you should do fine.

You are either tough or you aren't. That doesn't mean that what you father says is true. You need to have the courage to put your mind to something and do it - regardless of how hard it is.
Courage doesn't mean you aren't afraid. Courage doesn't mean that things are easy for you. Courage is being so scared you feel like you're gonna puke, but you confront your fear anyway.
In my time in the Army, there have been times when I had to take a second to allow myself to just kneel in a private corner, and just let my tears go. The difference between that and not being tough is that each time, I got right back up, and I continued the mission - whatever it might have been.
Good luck, and thank you for your interest in joining the US military.

Learn a martial art, it will provide you with the discipline to not have to be pompously tough.
Just join when you turn 18 and Boot Camp will work on that self-confidence issue too.

Have your dad yell at you like he's a drill instructer and treat you like shite. This is how they "break" new recruits...just like when you train a dog.
PS+ If you're thinking about joining the Navy to stay off the front lines, think again. I just watched something in the news where the military is training Navy and Air Force personell in small arms and sqaud tactics because the Army is really....running low.

Just do it and make your dad and the rest of the family proud. They will support you. Your dad just needs to see you do it. You can do it. Just believe in yourself and dig deep.
But if you let your dad tell you something like that and you don't take it as a challenge to prove him wrong maybe you should think twice.

Strive for Independence and you will find resourcefulness, build your endurance both physical and mental and you will have what you need for the navy.
Be warned it is a constant completion for personal integrity...These be the last friendly words ye hear....

There are no excuses no matter how difficult a job may seem. You say yes sir and get it done.
If you disagree with something your father asks you to do, do it first and ask questions later.
Get in shape & learn to take physical strikes without crying.
