The film Festival going on yearly brings in millions of dollars to the city...second only to Cannes and they have warned all the "stars" not to light up. The Tobacco Police fined one of the hotels over $600.00 for not have enough "no smoking signs" when Sean Penn lit a butt at a press conference.

This is idiocy! The Tobacco Police have too much power in Canada and the US. Watch out America!

Could it be that Toronto doesn't need the income from the film industry?

In my opinion if they are going to ban smoking because people have health problems that are aggrevated by second hand smoke then dammit I want perfumes banned as well.

Once more while standing in a checkout a woman walked up behind me who had obviously bathed in one of those horribly disgusting obnoxious new perfumes that smell like rotting undergrowth - within seconds I was wheezing and had a blinding headache.

These perfumes are JUST as dangerous to some people as second hand smoke is.

You just noticed that the city is based purely on idiocy?

As for your beef, we live in a little thing called "democracy," and in this "democracy," no one is above the law; including these "big" celebrities. The, what you just called them, "Tobacco Police" (they're actually provincial agents who the Tobacco and Gaming Act) saw a violation and let the law take over.

Sorry.....but Justice is supposed to be blind. The laws apply to everyone equally.

As per your train of thought, if Lindsay, Paris or any of the others want to have a few to many cocktails then drive back to the hotel......they should be allowed??? We wouldn't want to upset the "Celebrities"....right?

Enjoy the city and all it has to offer.....but please obey the local laws and have a great time!

Why should we care about Hollywood stars who want to smoke? Are we supposed to break the rules for some uneducated drunks because they know how to act?

Maybe they don't want people, (whether they are celebrities or not), stinking up non-smokers air. I am so glad that I don't have to go to a restaurant anymore and smell cigarette smoke, yuck!! GO TOBACCO POLICE!!!

F*CK the celebrities, if the rest of us can't smoke, then they can't either, why should they be above the law?
