I get your point & like the analogy to a certain extent.
That said I think that religious people would have a hard time comparing religion to some drugs.......with drugs like cocaine the bad effects are known to society and are pretty physically obvious to the user. This is not so for religion.
Religion is socially acceptable & the effects are not obvious (to the user and those around them - assuming they associate mainly with other religious people).
I would say it would be fairer to compare religion to an antidepressant & I have to say whilst I do not like antidepressants myself they are a socially acceptable & often valid & useful tool for 'helping someone through difficult times'. I might not discourage someone from using antidepressants to get through a difficult time - there are even occasions when I would encourage it.
This question reminds me of how I used to think religious people had to be all out crazy as they were deulsional....but....they are not as when something is socially acceptable (like antidepressants but not like hard drugs) your reality testing can fail. If everyone around you from family to school teachers not to mention friends says it is ok then it is hard to see that it is not ok.
Group psychosis is different to individual psychosis.
I like the question though, thanks for making me think a little :)

In all honesty, I wouldn't as long as it was temporary. Sometimes people just are not strong enough to deal with life and they need an emotional break until they can handle things again. At some point though, you will have to deal with the emotional difficulties life throws at you. If you don't, all you are accomplishing is numbing yourself into a state of denial about reality, and that isn't living.

harm human beings harm human beings. This guy or woman is unquestionably in decide for of severe long term counseling. the reality that your father and mom "leap with the aid of hoops" for her ability that she has them knowledgeable nicely. the father and mom are allowing her via giving in to her. dependancy issues are purely a symptom of lots deeper themes. What she is doing is incorrect and the muse of the subject must be dealt with. If she have been to easily end drugs, the muse reason might nonetheless be there and one dependancy could be replaced with yet another. turn to Jesus for power and the answer. If the will is replaced, the guy will no longer make the incorrect determination. God has to return in to her coronary heart, and make the transformation Himself-he's complete it with me. we are powerless to alter ourselves, and the earlier we end attempting to restoration the subject, the earlier we would have a answer. You all as a kin decide for counseling because of the fact dependancy touches all in touch. do no longer enable, and don't supply her an possibility to play which contain your suggestions. Say no to her,she needs to get the hint-her selections are her situation, no longer yours. She needs to go through the end results of her undesirable selections.

Depends on the drugs. If you're talking about people who are addicted to meth or coke, they aren't dealing with life, they are running away from it. If they're taking anti-depressants, it's not good, but if it helps them to function and they aren't sleeping all day instead or sponging off their families or society, I guess it could be worse.

Here is a good rule of thumb. If you need medication, take it. When you think you may not need it, why take it?
All forms of crutches tend to insulate us from the truth, and at length, we will need to use our own wings to fly. For some, leaving the nest will have to wait for hereafter.

make all drugs legal i say!
because if someone wants to do it, the are going to do it regardless of "the law". if there is a demand it will always be a quick buck for the dealers. so by making them illegal only puts people in prison.
so i say legalize every drug known to man!

It depends if the drug could result in harm to other people. I feel the same way towards religion though.

Omit drugs, insert religion.
And no, it is not wrong to try to point out the flaws in their reasoning... but it is wrong to be pushy about it. Make your case, and then move on.

Not only that, but sometimes drugs can make a non-difficult time even more entertaining.

Have you looked at the statistics on drug related crimes. More than 50% of crimes are committed by drug users. That's good reason enough for me.
