What I do is I search couple poses or child models in the images Field for pose ideas. I will also search onemodelplace or model mayhem on this Field. Pictures of poses come up and it can be real helpful. You can also search some of the child actors. Sometimes they have certain poses!

One of my favorite is a close up of the 2 faces together. Not exactly side by side. One head may be higher than the other or one head may be tilted a little. It's also nice when there's subtle shadowing.

Find books by Bill Hurter. He has a whole line of portrait and posing books that are fantastic.

Visit your library and look for books by the late Monte Zucker. He was a Master Photographer in portraiture. You should be able to find his books on ebay or amazon if you'd like to start your own reference library.

When I was in Photo College, I had a IDEA BOOK. When ever I saw something I liked in a mag, I cut it out and put it in my Idea book.....So time for you to start.

Go to a park, use landscape, playground, benches, etc..., and have them get comfortable in whatever positions are good for them.
