I don't believe because nothing ever convinced me that I should - I did try for a while - I really wanted there to be a god & I tried the whole church thing etc. but it always seemed fake to me.
Since I have come up with logical reasoning that supports my lack of belief and can argue rationally why I do not believe there is a god, but, if I am honest, the lack or belief came before most of the rationality - or at least before the rationality I could articulate......

I don't know if I believe.
I grew up w/out any guidance in this realm other than my mother occasionally saying a few things about God & Jesus. She took us to church twice as I can recall as a child.Something bizarre happened both times.
The first time, I actually stole a tiny pink doll's brush from the church's toy bin.I still have this brush & I never told anyone I took it.I kept it as a obscene reminder that I am only human, yet what kind, if I could do such a thing in the house of The Lord...I was 4-years-old.
The second time we went to this church, I was sitting in Sunday school, hoping no one knew what I'd done & at the door, there appeared a man(a member of the church)who looked just like Jesus Christ, at least in my head.Well, I totally freaked out & ran screaming out of that room, down the hall & into the church itself, where the sermon was in full swing. My mother was not happy, to say the least. We were asked to not come back...
I grew up in the bible belt of Southwest Virginia, & you went to church, period.I had friends whom I could not stay the night w/ on Saturday w/out going to church Sunday morning.I saw many of my friends get saved & become baptized, but not me.I've had preachers & pastors lay their hands on me & tell me to fall in the name of the Lord...but I didn't fall.I've seen people babble in tongues, dance & flop to the floor, handle(& get bitten by)snakes...all in the love & faith of The Father, The Son, & The Holy Ghost...
Yet, even to this day, whenever I enter a church, I cannot get "that" feeling.I do not feel "the Spirit".The church pews feel cold. The music doesn't move me.I find the preachers dull & redundant.
Not to say I haven't wanted to feel The Lord. Many, many times have I asked for a sign, something to show me He is there.I see the world, the mountains, trees, flowers, all life as we know it, & I know it was made by something, a higher being...I just want to know who & what.I am scientifically calibrated that way.To see is to believe.
That little pink brush is my proof of my sin all these years.I've done way worse things, believe me.I would like to have closure, redemption from all this but if I can feel nothing, nothing at all, when I am in His house...where is my proof?
My mom says when two or more people are talking together about Him, He is there...Perhaps He sees me typing this out; I don't know.
I hope I will know for sure one day.Until then, I take that little pink brush out every now & then...

I do believe in God for several reason, I don't have the space here to tell why but I really do. In short I have had many times something bad could have taken place(mostly my life) and for some God reason I was spared. By all rights i should have been a goner but I'm not. I don't go to church every day and yes i cuss and drink But I'm trying my utmost to change a lot of those things. I spent a lot of years doing those things yet i have always believed in God. As i said I'm trying to change as much as i Can cuss a lot less drink less(not that i drank a great deal before but i did drink. I don't run around do look at women and porn but i don't put it into action. But hey I'm human right.

I believe in God because it seems logical to that an actual being created earth instead of it being some result of some galactic explosion. What made the big bang happen is my point. it could only be a God-like force.
I've also prayed a few times for some stuff, and it happened.

I believe that God exists for several reasons.
First and foremost is the affect it has on the person who turns to Jesus. I know MANY people who have been delivered and set free from a life of drugs, crime, etc because of the power of God. Testimony is a powerful reason to believe.
Second, is logic. Sherlock Holmes said (I know he's only a fictional character in a book, but more people have heard of Sherlock Holmes than Sir Arthor Conan Doyle), but he said something like, When you are looking for the solution to a problem, when you've eliminated all the impossible solutions, then what is left, no matter how improbable has to be the solution.
The two options I see for the existence of life in this universe is either by evolution (chance), or by God's deliberate design.
Evolution, originally formulated by Charles Darwin, was based on faulty science.
Darwin believed that the cell was the smallest divisible unit in a living body.
He believed that the cell consisted of a liquid that he referred to as "ambiotic fluid."
He believed that while developing as a foetus, the "undesignated" cells could be reformulated by external factors.
The problem with all this is that he was 100% wrong on every step of his unscientific reasoning.
He didn't know about the nucleus, the mitochondria, RNA, DNA, the mechanics that convert raw materials into usable energy within the cell, the complex way in which a cell divides, etc, etc, etc.
In fact, did you know that the DNA is a double-strand of extremely complex molecules, wrapped up in a double-helix?
Did you know that this double-strand of molecules first unwraps itself, then splits into two separate single strands, and then the single strands make a mirror image of itself called RNA, then the two strands come back together and wrap itself up again in the form of a double helix?
Did you even know any of this before? It's really quite amazing.
And I won't even go into the mechanics by which the raw materials are converted into usable energy within the cell. It defies all comprehension if you presuppose that it all began with an accident!
It's not scientific to believe in evolution, and it's not logical.
Furthermore, if you were to compare the DNA to ANY thing, the closest thing to compare it to would be a programmed Cray supercomputer, which doesn't even hold a match to the complexity of the DNA.
We know and understand that the Cray was designed, built and programmed by people using their intelligence, and yet people still hang on the nonsensical idea that the more complex cell was just an accident of nature!
So, not only is evolution not scientific and not logical, it's not even rational!
I eliminate evolution as one of the means by which life began in the universe as being absolutely, totally, and irrevocably impossible.
Now that the impossible has been eliminated, then what's left (that God created life), even though it may seem improbable to YOU, yet it MUST be the solution.
Now you have a REAL reason to believe in God without first saying the Bible says so!
Will you seek out this God through His written Word, the Bible, or will you disregard this information.
Remember, "knowledge equals responsibility", but if you ignore the evidence and choose rather to live in darkness, then you're commiting intellectual as well as moral suicide!
So, what will you do now? The ball, as they say, is in your court.
Additional comment:
Thank you for the "thumbs down" vote. It only proves that I'm right when I say that people don't believe in God because they don't WANT to believe in God.
You ignore TRUE science for lies to support your belief system, making you a religious bigot, because it takes MORE faith to believe the lie, than it does to accept the scientific facts!
Why not do your own homework and learn what the mitochondria does? Why not study the DNA for yourself and see how the cell duplicates, or how proteins are synthesized within the cell?
Everything I said here is factual and scientific, so if you reject it, it's because you don't WANT to accept Truth!
So, again I say thank you for the "thumbs down" - it really does prove I'm right about atheists and the way they think and reject what they refuse to know anything about.

I believe in God because when my life was at the bottom of the barrel, with noone to turn to. God healed my life removed the nasty habits I had and removed the desire to do them. Now I dont smoke, drink, or do drugs. I have started serving God and he makes me feel wonderful and I thank him every day. Why dont you try him and see what he can do for you.
hey Bob does your functioning brain make you feel good and happy?

I believe in God because I have had the most inconceivable....most impossible prayers answered when I have asked GOD for insight, refreshing and joy.....you wouldn't believe me if I told you.....
It's not that I've tested the theory....just have been real with myself and God and what I have needed when asking....
I have a personal relationship with the Divine...something between me and God really
what else matters?

I don't believe because if you take a step back, your "God" is no different than the "God" they worship in some sort of ancient tribe in Africa....who is right? I also think that most things can be explained rationally or scientifically, and people attach meaning to meaningless events or things....such as dreams.

I choose to believe in God , because I have read a lot of fantasy books and many of them refer to God. When they do they refer to him as the ultimate good. Like the god Paladin out of Dragonlance.
I decided for their to be an ultimate good in my reality and for that good to be ultimately forgiving. Curing all those who suffer from mental illnesses that cause them to do what they do , or educate the ones that do it out of lack of proper knowledge. Of course this is after you die.
Right now I can't remember what all else my God does or why.
As for the people that believe in the same God I do. That is just convenient. Even if there vision of him/her is scued.
