How come nobody paid any attention to the many many statements and fatwas issued by Muslim leaders against the terrorist, but then conveniently turned around and claimed nobody spoke out?

"In his office in Leesburg, Va., Taha Jabir Alalwani, the chairman of a council that issues Islamic legal opinions for Muslims in North America, opened a copy of the Koran and read aloud in Arabic a verse that lays out the rules of when a Muslim may fight.

"The verse says you have a right to fight those people who try to force you to adopt another religion or to leave your home," said Dr. Taha, a Muslim judge who founded a graduate school in Leesburg to teach Islam to Westerners and Western values to Muslims. "But America didn't ask you to abandon your religion. America didn't deport you, or tell you to leave your homes."

There are certain type of people/characters who are easily provoked to rebel and just dont like peace. Whether they are muslims, christians, hindus, budhists, in my country surprisingly atheists.

They always find verses, excuses, reasons to fight.
Mainly they are not the spiritualists; so no matter how many times the mullah calls for peace he's not gonna be heard;
Also there are always some mullahs, priests, or community leaders who like to provoke, they rather listen to this calls.

Those people who like to fight come mainly from a brokenhome families, or a violent environments or environment with lacked of support. They were frustrated people .
They maybe polite peoples but their heart are rebelling against unfairness.
That's what I think .

See, here's the thing - we had to hear this from you on this site. And I never heard of this council for Muslims, probably because I'm not a Muslim.

I know Muslims can shout, because I've seen it on the news. Let's hear some shouting from the "good guys" for a change.

OK. So, we have millions of Muslims protesting in the streets calling for the beheadings of cartoon artists, and this ONE man speaks out from his OFFICE and this is considered speaking out against violence that Muslims generate?? See the issue??

In this country, when there is a loud vocal majority making a lot of noise, usually the loud vocal minority goes out and protests as well - they dont sit in their offices and read verses of scripture.

The followers of Islam are clearly showing more loyalty to their Muslim terrorist brothers than the citizens of the countries in which they live.

This is a good question. My own opinion is that it's a matter of who speaks louder - terrorist actions make the news on a global level, and items like this generally do not, except in their locality.

I think that it's cool that there are islams who speak against terrorism of any kind, even when it is against those who share the same root belief (ie the Prophet Mohammad pbuh)

I'm a friend of Islam.

In all fairness, death threats do get better ratings than people denouncing terrorism. (I mean, we take at as a given, and most people wouldn't care, though that doesn't warrant keeping people ignorant).

Nice new avatar, by the way.

i guess the media is to blame. instead of showing that they show the people dancing in the streets on 9/11.

probobally because a fatwa is as realistc as the "war on drugs" crap we hear from american politicians

just how much war do you think has been done?

and do you think it stops there?

- war on illiteracy
- war on racism
- war on sexism

even the "war on terror" doesent do anything. and dont assume the US being in Iraq has anything to do with terrorism...its all about oil and setting up a puppet government...might as well clarify that now.

so please..."fatwas"?, "war on [insert bullcrap here]"

there equally as reasonable, equally as real and equally as stupid.
