I'm a nursing major. Where I'm going to school, chemistry isn't part of the courses required for a degree. Based on this, I'd say that we really don't need chemistry to become a nurse. (The curriculum at another school may require you to take chemistry to obtain a nursing degree. I'm not sure.)
However, I was a pharmacy major before I decided that I really wanted to do nursing so I've taken two basic chemistry courses.
I've taken anatomy and we had a chapter on chemistry. I'm taking microbiology now and we just had a chapter on chemistry. In my nutrition course, we still touch on chemistry. It's all pretty basic but having those chemistry courses in the past helped me so I could focus on the other material since I had learned all that chemistry before.
Chemistry might not be required to be a nurse but I think it's useful for some of your other classes.

To get a 4 year college degree in nursing you need to study some chemistry.
All medicines are chemicals. If you do not know any chemistry, it will be very difficult to understand them or even remember them.
Also body is a huge chemical factory. Everything happens by chemical reactions. Without knowing any chemistry, it will be very difficult to appreciate as to what is going on within your body.

I was a chemistry major before med school and it helps with biochemistry, but in clinical practice you just need to know pharmacology. Depends on the nursing program what the requirements may be.

Definately not
you dont even need much to become a doctor
Nurses dont even really need to understand biochemistry
It might be a good idea to learn it just so it helps you understand biochemistry so that helps you understand physiology a little better though.
p.s I hate chemistry :)
