Americans will drive truck. Being from a family of truckers and married to one. It is not that easy being a trucker, you have to have a cdl which used to be a chauffeurs license but when the government took over it was changed to cdl and alot of things changed of course you get the government involved in anything and it turns to crap. If you do have a cdl, you can find a job anywhere depending on if you can get buy with what they pay, and how long they want to keep you out, etc. Most truckers are paid by mileage, that means they get paid for how many miles they travel, easy right, NOT, you get paid the miles the computer says it is or as we say as the crow flys not the actual miles you ran. Then the DOT says you can only run so many hours and then you need to shut down for so long. Trucking is not just get in a big truck and go. It is alot of company & political BS involved. I could keep going and going but the bottom line is Amereican will work and want to work for a decent wage to be able to survive, it is sad when a $3100 a month for a family of 4 is working poor.

Y! is so interesting! Most definitely, the issue about Mexicans has nothing to do with "racism", although so many people try to make it a "racial" matter.
Of course, people will claim it makes the goods cheaper. How is that good? It isn't. The more foreign goods we buy, the worse our economy becomes. The cheaper our dollar becomes. The higher our taxes become.
If the Liberals in charge of running this country want to allow Mexican trucks into our country, they should make absolutely certain that the drivers, trucks, any other persons involved, meet AMERICAN STANDARDS! Look at all that bull about the Kyoto Accords: they apply to the U.S., but NOT to Mexico! So much of our pollution comes across the border from Mexico.
I submit that a law is NOT a law (accord, what have you) UNLESS it applies to EVERYONE equally!

This will also affect dockworkers at the ports. Do you really think that all the other countries are gonna ship straight into our ports when they can offload in Mexico and truck the stuff from Mexico to all over the USA?
Besides the security problems we are gonna have with it.
This is just another way of bypassing a lot of security and wage guarantees. Our president can be thanked for:
1. American truck drivers losing their jobs.
2. Increase in drugs activity & illegal aliens set loose in our country.
3. Traffic related deaths.
4. Increased terrorism risk.

Oh, but our lettuce will be cheaper. (ggrrrrrr)

Are we going to require them to provide health benefits to their workers? And carry insurance? Or are we going to get stuck paying medical bills when they have accidents?

Is the Mexican trucking industry going to regulated like ours?

The newspaper is filled with ads for OTR drivers. You have to be able to get a commercial license in order to become a truck driver.
It is an American job.

Have you had a problem with Canadian Truck drivers bringing their loads across country all these years? Mexico can only bring theirs in so far and then have to transfer to a union guy. It increases our costs. Lets be a little fair here. This is not amnesty in anyway shape or form.

This is a way to slowly integrate us into a Union with Mexico and Canada. Google Nafta superhighway.

We will all see if our items get cheaper. Same was said of China goods, the cheap bunch of crap we receive makes me wonder where the good stuff is going. We keep getting crappy junk and the price goes higher. We need to go back to work make our own goods.

Obviously you don't know what you are talking about.

The Mexican truck drivers are working for Mexican companies that are dealing with American companies and are been allowed to drive into USA and deliver.

I think you completely misunderstand NAFTA. NAFTA does not create a new way for US companies to hire people. The Mexicans driving the trucks up from Mexico are employed by a Mexican company; the company is exporting goods to the US. Conversely, the border is open both ways so US drivers with good heading to Mexico can cross the border as well.

This solves a previously stupid approach to trucking across the border. Previously a truck would drive to the border, get unloaded in to a warehouse and then the items would be loaded in to a truck from the other country to finish the trip. Even in that case the trucks were crossing the border, however they could only go to designated warehouses (which of course tack on their costs to the products shipped).

Cross border shipping has been going on for several years across the Canadian-US border. Perhaps you have a racial issue?

To clarify for those of you who missed it; Mexican trucks can bring goods in to the US and take goods back to Mexico. They can not transport goods within the US unless the trucking company and it's drivers are properly licensed in the US.

Do you actually KNOW the requirements to get a Mexican truck driving license? Didn't think so...

The American people "legal citizens" need to revolt. Enough is enough!!! One day all the people will understand, we will become a 3rd world country. I say, all illegal people go back to their country and revolt against the injustice in their country. I say, the American citizens revolt against their country and say... enough is enough!
