Oral health n general health r related. if u r worried abt ur oral health, y arent u worried abt ur general health. smoking definitely puts u at the risk of developing dry socket after an extraction. smokin also puts u at a high risk of developing oral cancer n periodontits (gum disease). n smokin is injurious to ur health tat it can affect u in many ways, im sure u knw of it. so best thing u can do is to try n quit smoking. get help with some of those gums which smokers can chew on or go for some counselling.

don't drink through a straw either. trust me, dry sockets are excruciating...you may or may not get one by smoking or using a straw, but if there is the slightest chance i wouldn't do it...i would do ANYTHING to avoid a dry socket...i can't stress that enough. best of luck! maybe this would be a great time to try to quit:)
